Balotelli Vs. His Landlord
Madcap footballer Mario Balotelli has been banned from returning to his £3million mansion ... by his landlord who wants compensation for a trail of damage.
The volatile Manchester City striker is still living in a city-centre hotel more than three months after a firework was let off in a bathroom at his £2,000-a-week rented Cheshire house.
And the Italian, 21, is now in a stand-off with the landlord, who won’t let him back in until he settles a damages bill running to tens of thousands of pounds.
The sum includes fire damage and the wrecking of expensive dining room chairs.
But Balotelli – paid £100,000 a week – is disputing the level of the bill and is refusing to pay up. The landlord has began legal proceedings to recover money from the Premiership ace, serving him with a formal notice under the 1925 Law of Property Act.
Eccentric Balotelli had only been in the house in the footballers’ enclave of Mottram St Andrew for a month when the blaze caused by the firework forced him to call the fire brigade on the eve of his team’s game against rivals Manchester United last October. He insists the firework was let off by a friend.
A Manchester City spokesman said: “Mario feels that he is being ripped off. The club is aware of the matter and we are backing Mario fully in this.” Before moving to the mansion, the player got a police caution for setting off £1,500-worth of fireworks in a flat he rented.
So he will be the 25th homeless person in Hilton...
