How gd was Gerd Muller?

Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Di Stephano etc..?

I say you sure as hell can. He wasn't the flashiest player, so most people just look him by.

But goddamn, could he score goals.

68 goals in 62 NT apps. 398 in 453 Bayern games. Was instrumental in Bayern's European domination and in Germany's 1974 WC.

I'm not a guy to judge players on stats, but that's just silly. You could see him and comfortably say, "He's gonna score today".

thx sushi..i was asking cuz i just watched youtube videos for him.. his goals with German National Team in WC etc....
his stats are impressive.. 68 Goals in 62 matches more than 1 goals per game..
he is great finisher, he is always in a gd position to score goals.. ( this is what i concluded after seeing his goals)!

How do u rate him with respect to other german players?
& strickers in general (all-time)?

The greatest German player along with Franz Beckenbauer.Certainly top3 among strikers IMO.

Agreed. When people say "Germany" they instantly think of the Kaiser, but the Bomber was just as important.

To me, he's the best penalty box striker the world has ever seen. Not as complete as other Greats, but goal scoring wise no one gets close.

Greatest pure striker to ever play. There were more complete strikers (R9) but none were better at what he did. He scored. Boy did he score.

I remember looking at his stats and thinking to myself "my God , if he was playing now"

His type is a very rare breed , i could just imagine defenders then crapping their pants whenever they saw his name , and that time defending was on a totally different level.

the closest (when i mean closest , im still talking about only quater of his ability ) would be RVN

If he was playing now , i guarantee clubs would be paying close to 60 million to get him

Yeah the combination was great. The pure instincts of a poacher like RVN together with the body type (short legs, low center of gravity) of a Messi. Add to that a proper striker's shot. Totally lethal combo, but someone like him will come around again eventually. Might just take some time. :coffee:
