Lahm only a defender? Especially recently, Lahm is found in the vicinity of the opponents' goal so often that Badstuber has to tidy up for him as well. (A fact that certain people use to bash the poor boy for getting drawn out of position - in truth he has to play a "L/CB", you could say, as Lahm is more often in front than not.)

Lahm has no goals and 3 asissts. marcelo has 2 goals and 2 asissts

Lahm has 0.8 key passes per game Marcelo has 1.3...hardly comparable

what does he do when he leaves badstuber on his own???

To me there are no "attacking" LBs and "defending" LBs. There are just LBs. Obviously if you put the word "defending" in front of LB you're going to put the most amount of emphasis on his ability to defend, but then you might as well have a CB. Likewise with "attacking", you might as well have a winger. A LB needs to strike a balance between the two.

Exactly. The good fullbacks have to do both things equally well. Hence Lahm > All.

He attacks very well and defends well. Yes, he does one better than the other but he is still very composed at the back.

I'm pretty sure Cristiano has nightmares about Alves, he keeps him in his pocket regularly.

calm down, not blaming anyone. fb tend to have a more free role or attacking one if the coach allows it.

If you guys want to start another thread about Alves' defending that's cool but I don't see why we have to turn this into yet another Barca vs Madrid debate.

Anyways, Alves is rarely ever "crap", Ronaldo is not the easiest person to play against, and everyone was bad against Espanyol.

Even with Lahm having the change whole frakking flank hangover, his defensive solidness is second to none. He still attacks well, if not then just ask yourself why Ribéry is in such god form.
