What would you prefer?
How highly do you value a trophy?
It's pretty obvious that everyone wants silverware, but i was wondering what will people want sacrificed, if it meant getting a trophy. It's been ages sonce we won one, so the value of a trophy cannot be understated. But i also sometimes think we undervalue the fact that we've been in CL and top 4 consistently for over 12 years. So i wanna ask this question.... Would you win CL but come 10th in EPL? Or come 4th in EPL and not win a trophy?
EDIT: What i'm trying to say is this. Arsenal have been playing like a mid-table club all season long in all comps. But we flukely win the CL (not a possible scenario i know, but you gotta take the realism out of it for a second. This thread is to see how much you value a trophy). The future does not look bright at all. To get back in top 4 will take years. Yes we will be in CL next year but we will not win it again and we will be out of it the year later and won't even get into Europa League.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Gosh. Thats like choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea.
But my vote would have to be for the latter option. We are a football club which aspires for sustainable success.
But given the options, I would rather be in the elite of Europe season after season than do well in it one year and not be in the next.
EDIT: If we win CL, we are in it again the next year regardless of the league position right? If yes, then it doesn't seem such a bad bargain - as long as Spuds are getting relegated in the process.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Rather win CL, would take so much pressure off everyone at the club. Until we get that next one our players are always going to be under pressure to win something which in the long run is bad for the mentality of the club.
Coming 10th means our team wasn't bad if we won the CL and the money from winning would easily cover the loss from the next years CL. :p

Winning CL for me, I don't care if we finish 18th.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
I choose winning CL and coming in 10th but it's hard to choose from I mean it's been 7 years so what's another year or 2 or 7.
Than again its been so long I'd take the carling cup and 4th place.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
If a team wins the Champions League it doesn't matter where you finish, you have the right to defend it next year, so it's a win win situation.
But if it was for example FA Cup and Carling Cup for Champions League [4th spot], i'd choose 4th spot.
The best thing of a good football club is competing in the highest level with the best clubs.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Try not to look at how good the squad is. Just think that the team had it's worst ever season in EPL, were a laughing stock compared to the big teams, but luckily managed to get the CL trophy. Next season you don't look to be in contention for any trophy....Is that what you guys want?
And who would want to get relegated? How can we call ourselves a big club if we get relegated?

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
In the current situation a Champions League will be the ideal answer to all critics and assurance to all the players looking forward to Arsenal..
And given we havent won it anytime i will take CL for anything above relegation...
NB.. the trophy i am refering here is CL.. If u win it you are the kings of Europe and u dont need to prove u r the best in England..

18th and getting relegated in the domestic league? No thanks. Domestic pride is more important to me than European glory.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Exactly. Is it worth getting one trophy, and looking like you're never gonna get another trophy for another 5 years?
And those who say that gettin a trophy will shut up our critics, what about the new ones that will say we're a mid-table club?

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
I'm agreeing under the pretense that we're a team that is of Champions League caliber and finished 18th once as a fluke but wins the Champions League rightfully so meaning we have the quality to win the league the next year. I wouldn't take frequent CL wins over EPL consistency.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
You do Nishank but you're unlucky to win again, as the trophy win was a fluke. The team played like a mid-table club the whole season in all comps but has luckily won a CL trophy and won't be winning one again anytime soon.
Would you want this over consistently being in top 4 for years to come?

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Just re-read it all and realized hell no, I prefer consistency. I would never choose to be relegated even if it meant winning the domestic double AND the CL.
I prefer our sustainable model over a one-win wonder.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
You know that if arsenal wins the UCL even if we end up 20th we would be called back to defend it right? and the 4th place team would be kicked out
I would take the UCL anyday

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
You'd take a year of relegation to hold that fluked trophy?
We're the longest top-flight football team and that means something.

I don't know if I could watch Arsenal play so awfully domestically for an entire year.

Re: How highly do you value a trophy?
Give us our due. 12/19 of our last games have been victories. We've been poor in all competitions except recent PL form. Had our early PL form been like this then we'd be chilling in 3rd.
