I thought he didn't perform for the NT?

Switzerland have a good team: Inler, Lichsteiner, Shaqiri, Xahkha (sp?), etc. Much better team than the US, Poland or Bosnia, and we know how the players who played against them did.

I know Messi hasn't won anything major with ARG, but he does have 22 goals in 67 caps now with the NT. And to me it raises this question, which current or even recent Argentina player can claim as many goals as Lio because it's not Tevez, El Kun, Riquelme, or any other Argie that I can think of. As of now his club form is in no way whatsoever near his NT form, but according to wikipedia's figures he's still doing better than anyone else on the NT. This has to be addressed.

1 goal in 2006 World Cup in which Argentina won 6 nil anyway.
2 goals in the 2007 Copa America
4 goals in the 2010 World Cup Qualification
and 2 goals in the 2014 World Cup Qualification

So 13 of the 22 goals Messi has scored has been in friendlies which means exactly squat.

9 of them in official competitions, against pretty sub-par teams.
