Re: Robbens late goal vs England
BTW I thought it was hilarious a couple days ago but it's even funnier now.
Does anyone remember the thread that said the arrival of Shaqiri at Bayern will put Robben to the bench and out of the club?
I mean talk about knee Jerk. Some of the stuff on this forum is crazy.
Robben was immense tonight with limited touches. I have always said this and will continue to say it, when healthy he is a top 5 player in the world and he's proven it everywhere.

Re: Robbens late goal vs England
Started watching at 2-0, right before England scored their first (I only watched a handful of minutes before that since I was switching with other games). Great end to the match, though I heard the first half was bad. Anyway, Robben's second was a great strike, though he should've been forced onto his right foot.

Stop him from cutting in on his left foot and he can be made to look pretty ordinary.
See the 2010 CL final.
OT: Wonderful strike though.

Probably right...although that Inter team stopped everybody didnt they....they had such a strong defense.... still, Robben is just immense when hes on top, no denying it...

Re: Robbens late goal vs England
You're right. However, the problem is actually stopping him from cutting in on his left. Every team in Europe knows precisely what Robben is going to do. What makes Robben so good is that it takes a concerted effort on the part of the entire defense to actually stop him from doing it. If they stop Robben, they leave holes for other players. If they don't stop Robben... Well, we've all seen what happens then.McLewis wrote:BarcaLearning wrote:Robben is virtually unplayable when hes on top of his game, brilliant, and I enjoyed that winner vs England

As for Inter in 2010; they stopped everyone. That defense was so good, it wasn't even funny. No, really... I did not enjoy watching them. They lived up to all the negative stereotypes for Italian football: slow build-up, patient in attack, tactics over pace/power, "boring" football, etc. (Not that it doesn't work. It got them through Europe's most difficult competition.)

Agreed on that as well. Inter did what they had to do and they did it quite well. For guys like Robben, miserly backlines like that make him look pretty average because he'll never get the space and attention he's accustomed to.

Re: Robbens late goal vs England
I don't think anyone is denying Robbens class, the question is just, how many days of the season he'll actually be able to run around that nice green pitch Bayern have.

Re: Robbens late goal vs England
When he is fit, he'll play every single day. I understand the point is that he has had injury issues. However, others are suggesting that Shaqiri has been brought in to replace Robben in the immediate future (or will effectively do so due to competition). This simply doesn't make sense. Robben is head and shoulders better atm, and Shaqiri isn't ready to take a starting role for a club the size of Bayern with the expectations currently placed on the club and its starters.VivaStPauli wrote:I don't think anyone is denying Robbens class, the question is just, how many days of the season he'll actually be able to run around that nice green pitch Bayern have.

Re: Robbens late goal vs England
Well, with some of their players, hoofball is a decent tactic for Ingerland, considering they got players who can play a precise pass over half the pitch and other players who are good enough in the air to control said pass.
I don't actually think that's their biggest problem. Chemistry is, or rather: lack thereof.

Holland didn't exactly looked like a well oiled machine. They played like they'd only met up for the first time ten minutes before kick-off

Thats right, top players are like that, even if the defenders know what hes gonna do, sometimes its helpless to stop
Any Bayern's problem is partly him injured but also becos they are rotating him with Muller too often...
