Manchester United has signed a new deal to have its shirts sponsored by US car brand Chevrolet.

The deal for an "undisclosed amount" is for seven years and begins from the 2014-2015 season, the club said.

Chevrolet, which is made by General Motors, takes over from current sponsor Aon.

In May, Chevrolet signed a deal to become the football club's car sponsor.

It also recently signed a similar car deal with Premier League rivals Liverpool.

I can't be the only one who finds this a little weird or even silly.

Why is that weird? *curious* In Germany, VW, Mercedes and Audi also have big sponsor deals with football teams. Heck, we even have Aston Martin sponsoring 1860!

Now, it's clear that firing GM marketing chief is not because GM is not happy about partnering with Manchester United, because GM wants to sponsor both clubs.

Chevy is desperately trying to increase their sales and this is one way that could help them.

Personally I would never buy one of their cars. I'm happy with my '83 Porsche 944 and my '89 Acura Integra, and wouldn't trade it for any Chevy, new or old

Opel (who also belong to General Motors) decided to sponsor Borussia Dortmund. Much better choice

one is for their official car sponsorship and the newly signed one for Man U is the shirt

Rangers and Celtic both have the same sponsor

Both are also owned by Americans. GM is America's biggest automaker anyway so this isn't that surprising honestly.

It's reported that's it's worth 600m dollars over 7 years, a 65m sterling activation clause and 45m sterling per year
