Mark Hughes: Victim or circumstances or creator of his own problems Empty Mark Hughes: Victim or circumstances or creator of his own problems

Mark Hughes went 6-2-10 in keeping QPR just barely above the drop in his first season at QPR, and 0-2-5 so far this season. That’s a combined 6-4-15 also known as a 24% win percentage. That could be worse, but considering a net expenditure of £20.5 before wages in the last transfer market, supporters are understandably expecting better than relegation form. After 7 games this season, Hughes looks no better off than Neil Warnock did last season.

The question is simple: is Mark Hughes a good manager, or has his reputation been enhanced by his limited stints in good situations?

Blackburn: 147 games
58-39-50
39.46% winning percentage

Manchester City: 55 games
22-13-20
40% winning percentage

Fulham: 38 games
11-16-11
28.95% winning percentage

It could be argued his best achievement was steering Blackburn away from relegation and then finishing 6th the subsequent season. It’s true that City were only beginning their project in his time there. However, Hughes was allowed to recruit some very high-profile names. Even so, he was unable to make them into the powerhouse they are now. Similarly, the struggles in his first few months at QPR can be attributed to the errors of his predecessors. But, he’s now had a chance to put his stamp on the club, and they continue to struggle.

Unless something changes, QPR look destined for relegation. My personal thought is that he is overrated and under-performing. If there was sensible management, I’d say he’s got another few games to prove himself. Then again, this is the same club that seemed willing to throw money at any free agent/want-away player on the market. They don’t seem to have a plan beyond throwing money at problems. If that is truly the case, perhaps a manager that doesn’t seem to have a plan either is the only logical option.

So, what do you think? Will Hughes be the first Premier League manager to be shown the door, or does he have immunity no matter what happens?

Mark Hughes should have never taken the Job. QPR is just a bad move for anyone.

Mark Hughes is a horrible manager. And QPR is a death trap for shite managers who think overspending on overrated/old/past-it player can bring you success in the PL. A good manager with the amount of money QPR has, would do wonders for the club.

I doubt it, No decent player who has a future would join them.

Even if you are a good manager, you still won't be able to get the players you want because they will keep rejecting you. Like a worse version of Spurs. Laughing

Trust me good managers can find talents like Michu, Assaidi, Manu del Moral, etc. Good players that aren't really known or tapped their potential yet and can make their careers at the club. I'm not saying start targeting the likes of Aguero, Ibra, Jovetic, but a good manager would buy smartly, kind of like Pardew is doing at Newcastle and Moyes at Everton.

Plus money speaks, just look at Ramirez joining Soton, and QPR has plenty of that. Some players can be bought Thumbs up

They had some decent money to spend in the summer, it's not / was not such a bad job to take. But some of their purchaces were stupid.

I believed before the season started that QPR will be fine. Not quite as confident anymore, but still sort of do. And that Hughes will be the manager to achieve that. We'll see.

Hughs adopted an overly defensive set-up at City. I remember his 4 DM formations fondly, that caused City to go on a run of something like 9 consecutive draws Laughing

I think QPR made some good signings like Granero and Hoilett.
