Could Match-fixing be a possibility in England? Empty Could Match-fixing be a possibility in England?

Post by Gil Mon Oct 29, 2012 5:24 pm

I understand human error, the need for technology and all that but the amount of farcical decisions that ruin matches, seasons & even football clubs is beyond ridiculous now. Mind-boggling calls like Suarez wrongly disallowed winner, Arteta's wrongly allowed winner & the robbery at Stamford Bridge have pretty much become a weekly occurrence but the possibility of there conspiracy being behind it all continues to be brushed off.

After the Armstrong, Saville and more importantly the CALCIOPOLI scandals, surely something of this nature really isn't beyond the realms of possibility when you think about it.

When the Chairman of the club that seems to benefit the most from these outrageous decisions in the PL is the VICE PRESIDENT of the motherf**king FA, surely that at the very least....you know, raises a few eyebrows?

And yes I'm still furious.

What exactly does match fixing mean?

If matches are generated before the start of the season, then where does match fixing come from?

Post by VanDeezNuts Mon Oct 29, 2012 5:52 pm

i dont think so, maybe in the past but if you are specifically referring to yesterday... no.

the offside goal looks bad in replay but was a really difficult call to make in real time. I know i didnt see it the first time.

also a big call that went chelseas way was luiz's handball in the box. if the ref really wanted united to win that would have definitely been called as it was very obvious.

the strangest call of the night for me was the second yellow card for torres. there was clearly contact, and though he did make a meal out of it the yellow was harsh.

on the flip side of that valencia also got a yellow for diving when there was contact. everyone thought mikel got the card but it would have been his second. so though it doesnt even out the torres sending off the ref at least awarded 2 teams a card for diving that was not diving.

All I know is that if it were investigated, you would never find out about it.

I don't think so.

There's just the subtle unconscious universal acceptance that United is going to get it's share of referee help when it needs it. I don't know why....perhaps referee's fear going against United in light of recent demotions and the fact that Fergie will tear apart their lives or perhaps it's understood that the league needs to remain competitive even at the expense of fairness.

You'll see the latter creep into Barca and Madrid games later on in the season but never to the United extent.

I mean Johnny Evans gets injured and all of a sudden he's getting protection a prime Maradona probably never did. Then two weeks from now , Bolton or Stoke or whoever else will abuse Ramsey and Wilshere and absolutely nothing will happen.

It's possible everywhere, but unless you want to get paranoid about it, you only start thinking so if some reports and evidence of it emerge.

Ps. I'm still furious about Suarez's disallowed goal. And this round of fixtures was incredibly poorly reffed, so many huge mistakes in one round, like the OP mentioned.

And yes I'm still furious.

David Barry Dein (born 7 September 1943) is the former vice-chairman of Arsenal Football Club and former vice-chairman of the Football Association. He was also the President of the G-14 group of European football clubs between October 2006 and May 2007 and has sat on various committees within FIFA and UEFA including UEFA's Club Competition Committee and Executive Committee

He was Vice-Chairman of Arsenal between 1983 and 2007.

In 1986 Dein was voted onto the board of the Football League Management Committee and subsequently achieved a place on the FA Council. He was also one of the major architects of the FA Premier League in 1992. He eventually rose to the position of vice-chairman of the FA in 2000, a post he held until 2004 when it was scrapped after restructuring. He was subsequently re-elected to the FA Board as an FA Premier League representative.

Dein sat on the FA Board until 2 June 2006 as one of four representatives of the FA Premier League clubs on the Football Association board. He was replaced by David Gill, chief executive of Manchester United.

This removal came one day after a news story broke on the BBC's Newsnight programme regarding possible infringements of FIFA rules regarding player transfers with, and loans to, Belgian club Beveren.[12]

The timing of the news story may have been an issue in the vote.

Dein's dual role as director of Arsenal and as a senior member of the Football Association's executive led to accusations of conflicts of interest.

In 2005, Chelsea manager José Mourinho said "A person who works in the club should not work in the FA. The FA is the FA and the club is the club"; he called on David Dein to resign. Mourinho's complaint related to the league programme apparently favouring Arsenal. In 2004-05, Arsenal played five of their six league games immediately following Champions League group matches at home, while Chelsea had to play five away.

In 2006, during the search for a new England manager to replace Eriksson, Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce questioned Dein's role in the FA, saying: "I don't know how much power David Dein has but he obviously has a great influence at the FA", and alleged that Dein had shielded Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger from the selection process.

Bet you wernt so furious when the shoe was on the other foot and and Dein was involved in similar positions.

If it were to happen, it'll probably happen in the basement leagues of England, like Southern conference 2 or whatever, where no-one really cares

Bates was only part of a comittee to rebuild Wembley. Nothing more.

And no, Kenyon NEVER had a role in the FA.

Get your facts right, mate.
