Another day in the CL office for Zlatan. Miss from 5 yards (right before the disallowed goal) and get himself sent off.

Did not see the match.
Looking at the result it will be hard for Valencia but they still have a chance with that late goal and that Ibrahimovic red card. They will have to set this match in fire.

Motta and Silva will be back. They're the regular starters. Gameiro is a capable backup to Ibra.
Valencia should have gotten molested in this game and will definitely get theirs in Paris.

Re: Valencia - PSG
Lets get one thing straight. This wasn't a vintage Ibra performance but it was far far from a flop.
But do people really understand the role of his position in Carlo's 4-4-1-1? How was he marked out when he dropped deep increasingly?
If people took their "Ibra a CL flop (myth) goggles" off they would have seen the problems created by him onto Valencia's defence while pulling the strings and making some excellent passes. Do people not understand that for over 5 years he has had an increasingly creative fulcrum role for his teams? Keep laughing as these were the same people who were criticizing Lucas and Verrati despite Lucas tearing up the right flank and Verrati outshining the great Banega and Parejo with some dazzling skills (only Costa was impressive).
PSG also played a deeper counter formation in which does not suit Ibra as he is not a counter attacking player and if not enough touches are received, its a square peg in a round hole.

Please don't compare Berba to Ibra No comparison at the moment.
You do realize if Ibra doesn't get the freedom to drop deep and create then he will be useless? What do you think happened in his early careers and in Barca when he was stuck out as a 9? He has been a resounding success in this role.

barca is a different story, im not the one to talk as i havent seen much of ibra at psg but has he ever played as 9 there?Arquitecto wrote:Idiot wrote:ibra is poor man's berbatov, he drops way too deep

today he kept going into the mid yet at times failing to link up and lose possession cause of the tight marking, cause of that he was missing in many of the attacks upfront, had he been there he would be in position to score several times.
there was no difference between him today and berbatov's weekly games at fulham, the exact same thing,
though given the goals ibra scores at ligue one says something, but for me he does more bad in the time dropping so deep than good.

He hasn't played a 9 since Barca in despite 22 goals and 11 assists, it did not work out for him.
This game was a bad example as PSG as a whole were far too deep while Pastore wasn't linking up as he needed to to with Ibra. Pastore, is known to decrease Ibra's effectiveness since he takes most of the positions that Ibra does. Hence why Ibra with Lucas in the central position works far better.
The goalscoring responsibilities come from Ibra liking to shoot from a deeper position while Lavezzi and Lucas/Menez love to cut inside to get into goal scoring positions.
Ibra's role has been a #10 for the longest time now. His link-up play, playmaking passing is world class. Hence why he is so revered.

Re: Valencia - PSG
so it was just this game
anyway the only players worth a mention from valencia were tino costa feghouli and to some extend perreira, guaita was so bad and their midfield was constantly giving the ball away and letting psg to hit them on the counter, all valencia was doing is going the ball to the flanks to get something from crosses cause psg's defence was very tight and organized
the tie is still open and given that ibra and veratti will be missing in the second leg i still believe valencia will go through
vamos valencia

It was disappointing to see PSG purely on the counter since I thought they could have taken them head on as they usually did. I predict Carlo did not want to take the risk in Mestalla where Valencia are fantastic.
As for this game people will fail to admit that Ibra was vital for their attack nonetheless with some excellent chance creation and passes. They also will see how incredibly important he is too PSG's front in the Parc de Princes 2nd leg while Verrati out is a huge blow after his performances for PSG this season.
It will mean Motta will have to take deputy with Matudi while Pastore and Lucas will combine centrally.
I can see Valencia going through as well.

PSG werent disappointing in their play, they could have scored more. Tie could still go either way, although I think PSG will go through.

Re: Valencia - PSG
Ibra was ok. He should have scored. The red card makes it a terrible performance imo.
as for the rest, perfect tactics. Matuidi is new to this stage and Verrati is too green overall... you had to dumb it down for the midfield. So Carlo made it into a counter attack game, which takes full advantage of Valencia's over eagerness on the attack and bad defensive recovery.
Return game, you'll see PSG force their game. Silva and Motta returning makes it more viable to take risks. Ibra won't be there... but Gameiro will be fine. Carlo may even put Menez at CF in a false 9 like last year and it worked well.

Valencia need to score 2 in Paris and hold PSG to no more than 1... it's a very long shot. Remember Silva and Motta are back. Makes PSG that much better on defense.

I still think Ibra was influential bar his finishing. Verrati despite being out muscled 1-2 times was passing very well.
As for Menez, with Lucas being excellent in the central role I can see him combining with Pastore in the 1-1 in a slight interchanging role while Menez out wide on the right since he is just better there then central.

Re: Valencia - PSG
valencia can pull it off... they will need to raise their game though and improve their defense tenfold in the span of a couple weeks. should be a high scoring gamesportsczy wrote:Albiceleste wrote:PSG werent disappointing in their play, they could have scored more. Re: Valencia - PSG
Verrati showing his best and worst side. Spraying them passes wonderfully then getting a totally avoidable idiotic booking which will see him miss the return leg. And enough of this Ibra is a CL flop nonsense, I debated this to death and have no intention to do this gain. Thought the myth would be eradicated after last season. Does not help when Goal.com makes an article about it ever year. He played deep today as his playmaking is superb, and did okay, that red card mars his performance though. That's just typical Ibra (not saying a good thing).
