Man Utd wants Conte

Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to leave Manchester United is, understandably, making the headlines in Italy.

The manager has this morning confirmed that he will bring his 26-year reign at the club to an end this summer.

“The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly,” he said in a statement. “It is the right time.

“It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so.”

Ferguson, 71, who has led United to the Premiership title on 13 occasions, will now become a club ambassador and director.

The Gazzetta dello Sport website wrote: “Ferguson-United, the end of a reign. Now it is official, he will leave at the end of the season.”

The Corriere dello Sport headlined: “United, Ferguson retires!”

While Tuttosport led with “Sir FinalAlex”.

United have yet to name a successor, but former Inter boss Jose Mourinho, currently at Real Madrid, and Juventus’ Antonio Conte are already being linked.

I doubt it. I could see Mourinho taking over more than Conte. In my opinion, United fans won't be pleased with an Italian manager.

Moyes of Everton is the one being favored according to the UK press.

Yeah, I know. I just meant that in terms of foreigners, I could see Mourinho taking over long before Conte. I would assume that United will look at all potential English or Scottish options before they even consider a foreigner.
