Which players are die hard loyal ?

Examples are:

Alan Shearer of Newcastle -- he stuck around for very long despite great interest from many top clubs for his incredible scoring prowess

Matthew le Tissier of Southampton -- he gave up a lucrative transfer to Man U to stick around with his small club, giving pinpoint passes and superb set pieces

Gerrard, Totti, Raul, Casillas, Guti, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Giggs, Scholes, Maldini

Wow good list. But I feel what they miss out most is exposure to another club's way of playing

Why not? Being loyal gets you respect from not only the fans of the club but also from people supporting other clubs. Javier Zanetti, Totti, Del Piero, etc. Are all praised by everyone, even rival clubs (like Milan and Juventus in Zanetti's case) WC strikers like Falcao wont have the same status as them, not because he is not a great player but because he chases money around and will never be loyal to a club.

It gets respect, however some players might want to win trophies and may move clubs. Then when they do move they get blamed for not being loyal, as if it's some sort of requirement.

Del Piero, Zanetti, Totti etc already played for top clubs.

In terms of Falcao, apparently he had no choice but to move to Monaco. It wasn't due to money I think.

Jamie f'n Carragher.

Although Nedved,Alex and Trezeguet were very loyal staying on with Juve even though they had offers ,all of them were past their prime you could say even though they were still showing their class at that age.

While Buffon in his prime,after having just won a WC stayed in Serie B with Juventus.Beat that.

It's easy being "loyal" when you're at a top club that regularly wins things.

Would Giggs have stayed around at Man Utd if they were as turd as they were in the 70s or 80s?

Le Tissier personifies loyal. He stayed at a poor, unfashionable small club when the opportunity to move elsewhere was available.

Anelka, Ibra, Bendtner, Borriello to name a few.

Zola- Turned down millions from Middle East/MLS to go back to Cagliari and promoted them to Serie A where they are still in now.

Lucarelli- What a story. What a story.

Steve Harper- See his thread.

Gigi Riva- Turned down millions from Juventus and made Cagliari win Serie A.

Rogerio Ceni- World class keeper, stayed with São Paulo entire career.

Of course there is Baresi, Maldini, Buffon, Fachetti, Zanetti, Totti, Del Piero, Giggs, Scholes, Gerrard, Raul, Casillas, Xavi, Adams etc

Mike Terranova, staying with RWO through two promotions from 4th division to 2nd division and back through two relegations to the 4th division. Originally he wanted to retire before last season, but he decided he couldn't abandon the players and so he still played through the full season with 36 years as the main striker.  And after retiring now, he stays with RWO as assistant coach. Terra, our football god!

Regardless of people's opinion about Carragher, He played in every final that LFC has challenged over the past decade, Accumulating 11 trophies and more than 700 appearances of one club.

That's what happens when you are a "local lad" and the Carraghpostles who pollute Anfield desperately crave a footballer who is willing to risk limbs and dignity in order to "get stuck in", fighting for the shirt and giving 150%. In all honesty, if the English Football Association employed officials who are determined to follow and maintain the sanctity of the Laws Of The Game, James Carragher (along with many others) would have had over 50 red cards in his career. James Carragher said in his autobiography that he was not at the level of Roberto Ayala, which is 100% true. Carragher "peak" years were when he was carried by the better Sami Hyppia.
