Its not about Baldini, its about Madrid pushing for Bale and not giving a fuk about money.

Re: In praise of Franco Baldini
Tbf Baldini is an expert as a DOF, he was Capello's DOF while he was at Roma in the glory years.
For Spurs to get him was an absolute master stroke and arguably bigger than all these signings because they are not possible without him.
Well done to Spurs.

Re: In praise of Franco Baldini
Some of the numbers there are incorrect, but in general principle yeah it's about right. If Spurs buy Lamela they will come out negative, but if you add in the surplus from last summer, Spurs should be just pretty near even.
That's ignoring personal money + TV money coming in.
Anyway, yeah Baldini has been the signing of the summer...not just as far as Spurs are concerned, as far as any club is concerned I think.

I think this is not a fair assessment as many of those transfers are done in installments.BarrileteCosmico wrote:
Bale money, Madrid is paying 23 mill a year for 4 years. For Soldado Spurs pays 6 mill a year for 5 years. I dont know about the Lamela and Willain deals...but that also should be in installments.

Re: In praise of Franco Baldini
praise for what? let's break it down
two highly rated players for 30+
a relatively highly rated mifielder for 20
an eredivisie winger for 8
a forward's release clause at 30
capoue for 11 is the only thing in there that can even remotely be considered a good deal... the guy bought a bunch of good-to-great players with a huge amount of money he was literally given, i don't see how doing your job the way you're expected to deserves extra appreciation...

Re: In praise of Franco Baldini
Spurs are continually laughed at for being rejected by any number of names that range from high profile to just decent players.
A year or 2 ago the thought of Spurs getting a player like Willian? Laughable. Soldado? Just as bad. Lamela? Nope. Hell, even Paulinho is a stretch, seeing as he came much more recognizable than the likes of Sandro.
Spurs were limited to the likes of Capoue and Chadli as typical Spurs signings as far as they wanted to go.
I agree it's not like Baldini has been negotiating them all down to bargain prices but if he was going to do that, Spurs wouldn't have gotten the players. Fact of the matter is, Spurs have gotten the players they have wanted-- all relatively top players-- since Baldini has come in.
When have Spurs ever been able to say that before?
Look at Arsenal this summer. That is Spurs before Baldini. The likes of VDV was an absolute coup for Spurs, now Spurs are making VDV signings on the regular (albeit not the same amazing deal VDV was, but you get my point).

Spurs probably would have signed players anyway regardless of Baldini. However he does deserve credit for signing those players.

Re: In praise of Franco Baldini
Why? It's not like he's unearthed any gems. They're only signing Willian because he's been transfer listed and Lamela because every other club has baulked at his price tag.Yohan Modric wrote:Spurs probably would have signed players anyway regardless of Baldini.
