Well, especially Max Meyer is only 17 and should be played with care. You can't put the responsibility for all of Schalke on the shoulders of some kids right now (Leon Goretzka, who is currently injured, is the third of the kiddy trio that will hopefully carry Schalke in the future). So it is important that they add at least a little experience which the kids can lean on for the time being.

As for Dennis Aogo - I just checked transfermarkt.de - they actually list LM as his main position: http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/dennis-aogo/profil/spieler_19354.html

It could be very sexy in a few years. Minus Farfan perhaps.

Eto'o on a free transfer on only a 1 year deal is sensational. Might even be taking a wage cut as well.

Brilliant buy and still only 32 as well. Sensational stop gap signing.

Torres/Ba have to go out on loan be sold though. 4 strikers for 1 position is excessive.

As a Chelsea fan you should know that your club only gives annual contracts for players above 30.

Yes Mou promised him an extension providing he delivers, and "free" transfer can be used loosely. He was discussed in conjunction to Willian despite his transfer being finalized, I''ll be surprised to think this was not some sort of double package deal.

On top of the reasons others have already given, I just felt like adding that payment structures can influence deals a lot. Maybe Juventus offered a nice and long payment plan and CSKA Moscow wanted money for Honda as an up-front payment. With co-ownership deals and the likes so usual in Italy, I'm guessing that they are otherwise, too, quite flexible with deals with each other.
