Emerson: A spark for Juventus?
A win for Juventus at Real Madrid would make them a serious contender for Champions League victory this season, says former midfielder Emerson.
The Brazilian played for both clubs during his career and spoke to Canal+ this week ahead of tonight’s encounter.
“Madrid are favourites, but we must not underestimate Juventus,” the 37-year-old, who left the Italians for Real in the summer of 2006, commented.
“The Bernabeu is an ideal place to get a result and turn around their current situation. A win could be the spark needed for Juventus to reach the Final of the Champions League.”
Juve have started this season’s European Cup campaign with some problems given their two draws against FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Real, meanwhile, have a 100 per cent record.
Emerson added that Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo would potentially be Juventus’ key men in Spain this evening.
“Tevez is a great striker, but for the final leap in quality he must win with Juventus. With Pirlo close it will be easier for him,” continued the South American.
“Andrea is one of a kind, we were teammates in Milan and his calmness during difficult moments was impressive.”
