cesc has no heart, he wont progress much

xavi is actually quite good

iniesta is a bit overrated, without xavi and messi, he would be like cazorla

sahin is better than alonso

Cool

Zidane is overrated without the 98 WC he would'nt even be considered the best player with Algerian heritage...... Ben Arfa and Benzema are both superior talent wise

hahaha zidane overrated take it from an algerian benzema is not even close and ben afra is orignally tunisian :coffee:

Oh my fav thread, neg rep ftw!

MU is a Pepsi Cola generation club. At least 8 clubs are bigger. MU is like James Cameron-overhyped and overrated.

Mourinho will go down as a Top 3 Manager of all time.

CR and Messi not equal at all, the latter is far ahead.

Higuain, despite all the talent is a poacher, so its funny to read about his build-up play.

Calciopoli is an artificially made scandal, though it doesnt mean there is no corruption in Italian Football.

Dutch generation post Robben/Sneijder is quite dull.

Spanish NT playing 'incredibly interesting' football is a myth, it is a poor version of Barca/Ajax possession style, though effective.

There are at least 6 NTs greater than England.

Cannavaro is not as legendary as other Italian CBs, he was insanely great in 2000 and 2006, but not consistent in other years.

Lev Yashin is miles ahead of Zoff, Meier (spelling), Buffon, Schmeichel, any GK you give. Just watch him.

Maradona is the greatest ahead of others, because he managed to win WC, get to final, with Napoli's success along on his own. He is the ultimate one man team.

Pele is great, Top 5 yes, but to say he is the greatest is to ignore teammates he had and Maradona did not. Pele is like MJ, great, but still needs a team (I know comparing NBA and football is not entirely correct, but you get the point)

Baggio talent wise is Zidane/Laudrup/Platini material. If he won ve that WC, he would ve gone down as greatest Italian player ever. And would not get sh*t here from people on forums and in real life.

Montolivo, Aquilani and their type of Italian of mids are average, not NT material at all.

MU has far too more power in EPL/FA. It is impossible to ignore. In Italy it would ve been a Calciopoli instantly.

Germany is probably the most consistent country in terms of producing talent. It never had bad generations.

Football lost in quality. 2000s was quite a poor decade compared to 90s, 80s, 70s.

I kinda agree with the drop in overall quality since the 80's and 90's. It's not no massive drop but to put it in simpler terms, there were more Balon D'or candidates to choose from over a season and not just 2 or 3 currently...

You are quite right, but by the time they are all done playing, new ones will have surfaced.
When Sneijder still played for Ajax, none of us was that impressed, it was only later that he turned that good.
And we have some pretty decent players that aren't really all that famous yet.

I would say football has gotten less competitive, not necessarily worse. The early 80ies weren't really that exciting either, I must say (before Maradona). Some of the excitement is gone too, because of the "new" set up of the champions league, which is why we end up with pretty much the same teams in the last 8 each year.

-Alex Ferguson, despite being a fantastic MANAGER, is not a great tactician
- Napoli is over-rated and will be exposed big time in CL
- Real Madrid won't finish top 2 in PL
- Howard Webb is a *bleep*, scumbag and disgrace of a human being who should be ripped to shreds
- Xavi is one of the top 3 CMs of all time
- Spearing and Barton should start for England NT
- Ryan Giggs winning PFA player of the year in 2009 ahead of Gerrard is the, and I mean THE BIGGEST and WEIRDEST mystery of my life time when it comes to English football
- Henry at his prime could be compared to ANY, and I mean ANY all time great
- Germany's NT is much more entertaining to watch than Spain's.

Seems everyone is ignoring the fact that the avarage player today is better than the "average player" of yesterday because of todays Tactics which would in turn make Maradona and Pele look human today.

That was my point - didn't emphasize on it though. Less competitive, not less good.
Overall quality of football has gotten much higher. The game has gotten much faster, etc.

Doc said basically the same thing though! Its more competitiveness than anything else. It's getting monotonous, so I am waiting for a new "revolution".

Talent, particularly awesome talent has a funny way of making all tactics and strategies null and void. The advancement of strategical footballing knowledge has improved massively but Maradona and Pele would probably be Maradona and Pele now. Teams would stop them but it would be like once in a while stuff.

Read the Pele is not the greatest [fact], it highlights many points when considering the comparison of different era's of football.

For example, for Pele;

1-No sub rule.
2-No cards.
3-Extremely hard tackles would go unpunished.
4-Bad equipment (shoes, shirts, heavy balls, etc)
etc

for Maradona,
1-The Italian league was very far ahead tactically in those days.
2-Italian defenses were on a class of their own, Baresi being the greatest in the Seria A then.
3-Napoli was not an average team, they had many NT players, and a very excellent midfield, and offense.
4-More competition throughout the league, no easy Malaga, Bari, Blackpool games.
5-Much less protection for players than now.
etc.

When making general assumptions about football players today and then, taking footballing inflation into account is a must.

It is my unpopular opinion that Cristiano Ronaldo made a serious mistake when deciding to join Real Madrid. He would have won more had he stayed, not only in these past 2 years, but also in future ones.
