Joe Allen = The GOAT
The only player in our team that has been pretty much flawless this season so far. Bestplayer by a COUNTRY MILE again yesterday.
Check out that skill at 3:54
I wish we had a team of Joe Allens.
He could teach a course for our midfielders of "How to play midfield"
Shame we will have to wait 2-3 months to see the Allen-Lucas partnership

He's been good, but we were good in midfield last season, too. Problem with goal-scoring hasn't eased at all after signing Allen.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Lucas is our best midfielder and by FAR our most important player.
Allen has been one of few positives this season. CANNOT wait to see Allen-Lucas partnership.
These two might not help us score goals, but we sure as hell won't be getting beat 2/3 nil by any team.

Will do him a world of good. Had a positive interview also.
Stated that he's settling in quickly and that we have too much talent in the group for this slump of form to continue.

Fully Deserved
I think we need our own thread for GL LFC Player of the Month. Every month we vote for whoever we feel like deserved it. Then at the end of the season we do GL Player of the Year. We might even, disagree with LFC's official winners.
Any thoughts on this? Would be fantastic imo

Make the thread Messiah. Sounds like a good idea.
Personally can't wait for Allen, Lucas and Sahin to play together. That trio looks amazing on paper.

MotM vs Finland. Slick passing. He is bulking up with each passing day.
He has improved his defensive side of the game by the looks of it.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Not surprised the least bit as given that I am probably the most avid supporter of Joe Allen on this section, it makes me quite happy to see him displaying what he is best at.
Rodgers who tends to import his favourite players followed by abandoning them, has coached Allen very poorly since his arrival in LFC, remaining one of my largest criticisms of our gaffer.
Allen needs to get more playing time within our midfield, dare I say it over Lucas who has been tremendously underwhelming this season.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
The problem with Allen is that like our other midfielders, he's best next to a proper defensive midfielder. Unfortunately for him he's not as versatile as Henderson or as good as Gerrard and playing him in Lucas' position wouldn't play to his strengths.
Good player in the right system but I'm not sure if there's a place for him in our team right now.

Well... the lad's going to to perform a helluva lot better than last season if he's going to add something to our midfield.

Yep. Allen is a good player but I think he has gone up in some fans' estimations without even playing. The current deficiencies in our midfield have led to some over rating him in my opinion.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
The thing is.. halfway past last season Rodgers tweaked his philosophy into being more result-oriented. Allen is a kind of a specialist player — that has been restricting his chances. The shoulder injury didn't do him any favors either.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Agreed that he needs to be rotated with Gerrard, if we are winning 3-0 against a team at half time, we should definitely see more of Allen resting Gerrard.
Allen was quick in his passing in the starting first 8-10 games last season and is agile, great center of gravity among all the midfielders we have. Or I wont mind seeing Allen and Hendo as a pair in the future

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
I'd even start him over Gerrard depending on the game too.
Allen and Henderson together won't work. They both recycle the ball and very rarely do they want to make something happen and take a risk by playing a through ball forward. If they ever get over that issue, they'll become good. Henderson to his credit has done this in recent times, but I still think he lacks footballing IQ when he gets into opposition's final third / the box. His finishing/shots suck and he's too slow to react when he's going to get challenged and loses the ball.

Allen needs some one with defensive skills. He will be very good with some one like that. I admire this guy and want him to stay. Then again that's just me.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
I think Hendo can surely do that, I will even say he has IQ to do that...i just think he needs to play more in an advanced role and he can surely do it, I am not sure if BR has set him a very rigid frame in which he plays. Even in Germany match, there was a cute ball to Sturridge which Studge wasted really. Even against Fulham he was being pressed by two Fulham players but he managed to pass it through for Suarez. I agree his shooting isnt really proven till now but it will come good and also so many times he makes good runs in the box, finds himself in good position but our selfish strikers do side netting many times instead of passing to him.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
You can only train "shooting" so much, though. It's clear Henderson won't be a consistent goal scoring midfielder. You look at all the midfielders that can score goals, and it's all, I don't know, natural to them. They already have that mindset as they have the confidence in themselves that they can shoot and actually have a chance of scoring. Henderson just look's nervous and not too confident when he shoots, and it's telling. He does look a lot more confident at Anfield than he does away, but it's still not very good. Maybe I'm too harsh, as he is still "young", but I don't think that he will reach the limits I once thought he would.
Henderson's running patterns have improved, but his touch hasn't. It was the same with Downing, really. (And there is no way I'm comparing Henderson's qualities to Downing here. Jordan is easily better, even if Downing probably edges him in technique.) Downing would get in some decent spots too, but never received the pass because the person with the ball knew that he would waste the opportunity.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
I think he wasnt too bad in Everton game as it is made out to be. He missed that chance but he should get more game time to get his confidence back and make his passing free flowing. i am sure we can rest Gerrard for Norwich game and give him some more game time. I dont see him getting minutes against Hull at least

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Apart from his shocking miss Allen wasn't too bad against Everton.
But to lack both the technical ability to finish off a sitter like that and the mental game-reading to square it for Suarez for a tap-in, that just tells me that the lad is not good enough for us. You look at Coutinho's finish when he scored, many players would have gone for power but Cou had the intelligence to finish it with calm and control. That kind of composed ability sets great players apart from average ones and all I've seen from Allen thus far is average football brain combined with decent technical ability - and that's not good enough.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Coutinho's goal only came to pass because Everton's player on the line was actually INSIDE the goal... it wasn't down to clever placement by Coutinho, it was down to idiot positioning by the defender.
Allen was put through on goal in a Merseyside derby on what was basically his first real game back from an injury lay-off... I don't see how that one opportunity can be used to write him off so completely. There's some utterly nonsensical knee-jerk going on here.

Re: Joe Allen = The GOAT
Disgusted by the Allen dislike here. When you count he has had paltry minutes as a whole within our club and off of an injury lay-off you would understand how difficult it would be to slot within an unfamiliar role in an unfamiliar formation.
As I state, Rodgers has ironically poorly managed the players he so wanted within his teams, and Allen is a mere victim of it. Watch Allen for Wales outperforming "Superstars" such as Bale and Ramsey on a regular basis for the team.
I'd place him deep over Lucas even considering the latter has been considerably average in even the elementary needs for us.
