Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6 - Page 19 Empty Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6

Arsenal, quite simply are Liverpool's bogey team. There is not a team I fear more than Arsenal (Wenger) when it comes to LFC as all the years of Wenger mastering us and Henry destroying our defence has instilled a core mentality to which only resonates conviction whether at Emirates or Anfield.

It even goes beyond Rafa's struggle against Wenger as even under Evans, Houllier and Kenny we struggled versus the Gunners as the only win was through Frimpong jeopardizing their whole game with a red card to which we won rather narrowly.

Which is why my fury on the West Brom draw was inconsolable as not only we seem to lose points just before we face Arsenal, yet we lose the cushion that can be produced in risk of dropping points at Arsenal.

Anfield or no, the place is no fortress as seeing the difference between the sides, Arsenal is a superior team in all compartments, collectively.

Neville was over the top with his comments about Mourinho. It's not long ago that a Guardiola-coached side did this at "Fortress Etihad":

I would have fancied our chances to take 9/9 if we had Fit and Firing Theo And Aaron[esp Theo as a big game player ;(] but 7 would have been still great had we beaten Saints
no matter who is fit or not must beat Utd @Home regardless

Manchester Citys road to "success" has been quite similar to Madrid.

Ref would never hand out a red for a shirt pulling, unless it was a reckless challenge with intention to play the ball. Unlike Prem League, this silly shit is seen everyday in La liga.

He was the last man and would have been 1 on 1 with Hart ie denying a clear goal scoring opportunity

Red card

I don't think it should be a red, as it was on the middle line. A lot could have happened between there and the goal.

Oscar could've tripped over, he could have lost his sense of direction and dribbled to the side line, or Kolarov could have simply caught up to him, as he's 3 yards to the side.

You talk about ifs and maybes all you want. The facts are, Oscar would have been 1 on 1 with the keeper and he was stopped from doing so via a desperate shirt grab

Red card all day long.

its 50 yards away from goal man, how can you talk about a clear goal scoring opportunity.

btw the first 2 'ifs' were a joke, the third was my point. Over that much distance, the next defender is likely to catch up with Oscar before he reaches the goal.

Ref would never warrant a red card for shirt pulling in an open game. Even tho its an offendable foul refs usually play it out of the rulebook. Its so custom when it comes defending set pieces. Rarely you can see referee taking an action into just like they dont like to give away soft penalties.

Because Nastasic is the last man, Oscar rolled him and Nastasic was falling away from Oscar.

Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6 - Page 19 BfljtP3CIAA95Zj

Nastasic and Oscar are in the centre circle, with a Chelsea player running on. There are NO City players anywhere NEAR those two. Had Oscar gotten away, not only would he be clear through, he'd have support right next to him, while the the nearest City player (Nastasic) would have been flat on his arse

Clear red

xcx, shirt pulling is a foul, and if that foul is committed to deny a clear goal scoring opportunity it's a red card, you brainiac.

yes, with that still frame I'm inclined to agree, I thought I remembered the next defender being a couple of yards nearer.

Doesn't matter if you're 50cm from the goal, 50 yards, 50 miles, 50 countries. If the last man takes out an attacking player with the ball, he's off

Judging by that picture yes red card would have been justified. You should have posted that earlier.

The difference does matter because if you're last man 15 yards from goals with the next defender 2 yards behind it's a red, if it's 50 yards I'd say the one 2 yards behind can easily catch up.

But you're right, City's next defender is too far behind to catch up, so it should've been a red.

I got a false impression from the angle I rememberred.

The issue is the referees simply interpret and apply the laws how they want. Technically Oscar was denied a clear goal scoring opportunity but like others have said the sheer distance to the goal makes you question it. That said, whether 15 yards or 50 yards alot can happen between the player and the goal and it's not up to the referee to judge if the player is good enough to score.
