Thiago or Verratti?

Perhaps it's just the games I have seen then.

Verratti nor any player of his ilk will never perform if they are forced to play in the defensive stance only to absorb pressure that Blanc set Paris out to do in the 2nd leg vs Chelsea.

He along with Ibra, Silva, Motta and Matudi are their ultimate big game players.

And always said he's far closer to Xavi than he is to Pirlo. Casciavit for example, feels he is closer to David Pizzaro than anyone else.

Reason they had to defend Arqi was that Verratti was too naive with the ball and was a turnover machine against Chelsea...  just didn't read what Mourinho was doing to him at all.  Namely, they overplayed Motta so that he wasn't the one handling the ball and forced Verratti to become the decision maker.  He's too young and green to handle that kind of tactical thinking at this point.  Lucas and Lavezzi weren't doing anything to help him either by helping out the midfield.

Very similar to what happens to Juve when Pirlo is overplayed... PSG was very Motta reliant to set play in the midfield.

Edit: Just stating that you cannot expect Verratti to perform in such a set-up; especially given that naturally he is a Trequartista.

Depends on the team and set up. Verratti is better deeper and Thiago is better closer to goal. For this Barcelona set up, either one of them will do tbh.
