The best CB in the world will look good in any league. :coffee: Even in GOAT Liga, although I admit it's not easy to play in the best league of all times. :coffee:

DAT deception when Roma won't sell Benatia and we end up with Vermaelen. Proud

they might sell, but depends if you have the money. They sold that scrub marquinhos for 35 millions. Given that Benatia is much better and still in his mid 20s, dont expect anything less. I think they will start asking 40 millions Laughing

I have no problems with € 40M for Benatia. We were supposed to pay that for D. Luiz anyway. Laughing Given his age and profile I honestly believe he's the best CB you could realistically get. He's good on the ball, decently quick, tall, strong, very good reading of the game and is only 26. He has everything you'd want from a defender. If I could chose between T. Silva and Benatia I'd take Benatia given the age difference and injury record.

when you see benatia tackling your heart will give out. guaranteed 15 yellows in la liga. And you have to see how he adapts to your high line

anyway, regardless of the CBs, if you still allows teas to by pass your mid with no resistance, you are still in trouble.

I read a couple of months ago that Sammer likes Luiz a lot, so probably it's not just Agent Pep at work  Neutral

Anyway, I don't even want to object to Luiz because of quality (because let's face it: what do I know? Laughing ), I just can't stand the guy. He gets on my nerves when I see him.
Might somehow be connected to a certain final of a certain competition that might have taken place in Munich. Can't really remember it though.

Well, it's BILD. And the thing with the 'swap' for Mandzukic gives me hope, as such imaniged swap deals never happen in reality.
The only one I can remember that did happen was ........... errrh....... Ibrahimovic/Eto'o..  pale

Fartra. Laughing Fartra has the positional awareness of my 102 year old great-grandmother when I leave her alone in the Grand Canyon in the dark and phone her to come back home in time for dinner.

Nick, pls. With Benatia on the field Bale wouldn't even get to touch the ball to begin with.

Benatia was far from being that impressive at Udinese or before tbh...  You have to keep in mind that Garcia is extremely good at protecting against the weaknesses of his defenders.  I mean, he made players like Rami and Cheyrou look like great defenders at Lille.  Heck, even Dodo looked like a fullback this season Laughing

I can't understand spending that kind of money on a player who was shaky his whole career and then has one good year...  under a manager known for getting the best out of his players.  Unless Enrique is at the same level as Garcia, you are destined to be disappointed.

Benatia's good but the hype he gets on Goal Legacy is extremely premature for a defender who has never played in the Champions League. That being said, whatever happens he'll be an improvement on Mascherano. He has a lot to prove before he's spoken of as truly elite though.

when u spend 40 mil as if it's the cure of your defensive problems and still take silly goals i will laugh.

a high line make defenders look silly. look at boateng and dante under pep. last year with jupp, they were very solid, specially with Martinez and piggy sitting in front of them. If your mid and forwards dont participate 100%, you will get battered in time

The one thing that's sure at least is that Benzema wont jump over benatia to score headers Laughing

2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III - Page 3 Empty Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III

Post by Onyx Thu May 15, 2014 4:42 pm

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward insists the club will compete for trophies next season after announcing a 60 percent increase in quarterly profits.

But he has warned United's absence from the Champions League will have an impact on income after they finished the campaign seventh in the Premier League table.

"Due to relatively high broadcasting revenues we estimate that the isolated impact for not qualifying for European football will be in the mid 30 millions of pounds which includes a 15 percent reduction in the price of executive facilities next year," said Woodward.

David Moyes was sacked as manager last month with Netherlands national team coach Louis van Gaal expected to be named as his replacement next week, but despite the upheaval on and off the field, the club has reported a promising set of financial results.

"Once again we generated record revenues as all of our businesses delivered impressive year over year growth," said Woodward. "This puts us in a healthy financial position to continue to invest in the squad. We will be active in the transfer market and deals will be done.

"The club's expectations - and you will see this reflected in the transfer market and what we have recently done from a managerial perspective - are absolutely to get back into the Champions League.

"Everyone at the club is working hard to ensure the team is back challenging for the title and trophies next season."

United's revenue in the three months to March rose by 26 percent to £115.5m and operating profit reached £40m, the increase primarily driven by a rise in income from Premier League broadcasting and sponsorship deals.

Broadcasting revenue was up by £13.9m to £35.6m while sponsorship income rose 43.5 percent. These ensured profits tripled to £10.9m in the quarter, and debt dropped four percent to £351.7m.

However, United's wage bill rose by 19 percent to £53.4m following the arrivals of Marouane Feillaini in the summer and £37m club-record signing Juan Mata.

New deals handed to Nani and Adnan Januzaj also contributed to the rise but it is believed Wayne Rooney's contract extension made no significant difference to wage costs as he has a separate arrangement in place for image rights.

It is anticipated the impact from that loss of revenue will be offset by a new sponsorship deal with Chevrolet who will replace insurance giant Aon as United's shirt sponsors.

The record-breaking deal with the American car manufacturer is due to begin from next season and is worth £53m per season.

sport, that's rubbish that Benatia was shaky and only had 1 good season because "Garcia is protecting him". He was very good at Udinese, too.

There is a guy over at Redcafe who is very knowledgable about football (proper freak, collecting footage of footballers from the 50s and stuff) and particularly defenders. I trust his analysises (called out Pique and Luiz as overrated before it became in, declared Koscielny a very good defender when everyone else over at Redcafe was making fun of him because of Arsenal's comical defense as a whole etc.). He wrote this back in February 2012 way before Benatia's Roma hype:

Honestly though, he really impressed me last year. Quick across the ground, reads the game very well, tall and aggressive, aerially competent and good with his feet and he's really excellent on the ground. Very tidy defender, reminds me of Koscielny. Chelsea tried to sign him 5 years ago but he rejected them. I'd be surprised if he doesn't go to a top-level club in the next couple of years, although he could go to someone like Valencia.

Nick: Just because we have tactical issues as well doesn't mean we don't need a proper defender. Proud

Barcelona closely followed Roma's Medhi Benatia this season. One of main centre back options, Luis Enrique agreed with possible signing [md]

If they let this slip. Mad

I often think 'hype' is a over used word.

Benatia was good at Udinese, but had his first world class season with Roma this current season. It is what it is; Roma had no CL to worry about this year, and there is no doubt next season will prove just how strong Romas defence really is. I would be worried about the LB position.

Show me the link. I'm certain it's not him. Because this is what he wrote about Fellaini:

He's almost always a step behind the play in the defensive phase. In the last game he was working his arse off to get up in support and then get back into position again, but when he did get back into position he just didn't seem to know where exactly to be. I just don't think he has the defensive instincts and awareness to be any kind of specialist defensive midfielder. Over time he'll get better defensively which is why I expect him to be a very useful all-round centre mid long-term, but I don't think he has it in him to be a particularly useful defensive midfielder.

The big prediction he got completely wrong was that Kaka would be the better fit / success for Real Madrid than C. Ronaldo. He didn't see him being as successful in a more technical and tactical league as he was in the frenzy end-to-end Premier League. And although he got it completely wrong you can still see where he was coming from.

When it comes to footballers which I haven't followed myself I trust that guy's judgement more than anyone else's. Doesn't mean that he's always right obviously but he's very knowledgable. Certainly comes up with more convincing arguments than "Garcia makes Benatia look good, only 1 good season".

OK. Well he said that 5 years prior to 2012 Benatia refused Chelsea. Well I'm a massive OM fan and he wasn't good enough to play for us back then lol. We loaned him out to FC Tours in 2006-2007 and then to Lorient in 2007-2008 where he got a serious knee injury. From 2008-2010, he played in Ligue 2 with Clermont foot. Udinese got him for free in summer of 2010.

Your guy must have been thinking about another Benatia.

So where is Cavani going then if Chelsea are going for Costa and Bayern are getting Lewa? Mehdrid? Atletico Mehdrid? hmm
