Costa is miles better than Mandzukic. I'm not sure people really grasp how well he played last season. He outscored any season Torres, Aguero, Forlan, Hasselbaink, Vieri, Falcao and Hugo Sanchez ever had for Atletico ffs.

Griezmann is a definite improvement on Villa but Oblak and Ansaldi/Siquiera are both HUGE downgrades from Thibu and Luis.

Siqueira is just as good as Luis, huge downgrade lol. just say that you have never really watched him

None of those players had Simeone.... If you want to keep ignoring how much of a reason he was for Costa's season then I'll keep bringing up how Spain looked better with Villa and Torres

yes, the Simeone factor still incredidibly undervalued. the value of every atletico player increased tenfold with Simeone over the past two seasons. He is fantastic at building teams where everyone works to protect the defense, and the strength of the players he has forward are capitalized.

Mandzukic might not score as many as Costa, but he will be just as important imo.

The underrating of Costa on this forum is disgusting. Systems don't get you 37 goals, he's just that good.

Yeah he flopped in the World Cup. So did Ronaldo, Aguero, Higuain and Cavani.

Yeah, some scrub is "just as good" as a defender some regard as the best in his position.

filipe is rated because he is playing at atletico today. When he was at Depor he was showing the same quality, the same balance in his game and even then he was great. in the past couple of seasons he was playing just as nice as he did this one, but it's the mainstream fans like you fapping at him now.

I didnt need to wait this year to know that Filipe was one of the best in la liga, just like Siqueira is a fantastic fullback. showed it times and times again in la liga and went to benfica and did the same thing.

you dont know need, hardly ever watched him, so dont claim to know how good he is.

That's the only good season in his entire career.

he can't be compared to the players you mentioned because they consistently perform for years.

I might be inclined to agree that he's the second coming if he wasn't a complete non factor in the quarters, semis and final....meanwhile even when he was injured the player who they apparently rely on most of all was not missed at all.

Sorry if not like everyone else I'm not a stat whoring sheep, I watched every big game Atletico played last year and he never impressed me.

you have to give him a break tho mole, he was coming off injury, and the way spain play is not appropriate for him. the way CHelsea do however, yes.

So funny how Chelsea fans are all about how good Filipe and Costa are after they signed... If they were still at Atletico it would probably be more like, "defenses in la Liga are weak... Anybody can score 37 goals when Vallalodid and Ossasuna are your opponents every week."

For the record, Costa is great. So is Luis.
But Costa dominated in last seasons league because he was able to outmuscle defenders and Simeone was able to use that to great effect in his system.
In England, the refereeing is different and the defenders are far more capable in terms of blocking off Costa's runs... And the defenses will inevitably be better. It remains to be seen how he will adapt...
As for Filipe Luis, I'm not sure if he will be strong enough in the air... But again, he could adapt really well... It remains to be seen.
The one basic truth is, however, that Jose Mourinho will be a big asset to their adaptation...

They are, but Atletico don't need elite players to function imo. As long as they have good players, Simeone will make it work.
