Fusball...  you realize that still images prove nothing.  You need to see the whole play from the start to understand who was out of position.  For example, if a fullback overlaps, it's up to the CM on that side to cover since he can't possibly recover on a counter attack.

And besides, ever defender makes mistakes. From the few Barca games that i saw, i though Alves wasn't the problem. The CBs and Busquets being off-form/slow looked the much bigger issues.

I took that picture myself out of the full match video so it isn't a sequence taken out of context which I've found on the Interwebs or something. The entire Sociedad attacking move starts with a simple GK throw. There is no excuse for Alves to be where he is.

Anyway, my argument has never been that Alves is the sole reason for Barca's defensive woes anyway. The argument between Dani and me started when he claimed that Alba is somewhere high up the pitch and neglecting his position. To which I replied that this happens a lot more with Alves than Alba. You can blame Alba for a lot of things but he defo sprints back into position every single time and doesn't casually jog upfront like a pseudo-winger.

Regardless of whether or not Alves is terrible or not I will say that you can't expect a player to be two places at once. If you want your fullback to attack don't blame him if he leaves spaces behind. Similarly you can't expect a team to press and not play a high line, it's either one or the other.

I'll disagree with that. A fullback's job is to both overlap and defend... but he needs to read the situation on the pitch to decide when he should overlap. His main job is to defend. A fullback that attacks without conscience = wingback.
