Messi is probably my all time favorite player, regardless of active. I'd put Pirlo alongside him as well, with a number of players narrowly missing out (SES, Iniesta, Robben).

I was just surprised to see someone mention Maher. He's a talented young player but imo he hasn't shown anything really special yet and his last season just wasn't good at all.

Probably Iniesta and Neymar. Iniesta is an elegant magician and he captures the essence of the beautiful game to me. Neymar on the other hand is also very entertaining, unpredictable, and fearless. It's a joy to watch the kid play. He ticks all the boxes in the excitement category.
