Bruges - Dnipro 0-0
It's insame how Bruges faced evertime the easiest team They can reach semi-final not realizing as they got it.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Sevilla 2 - 1 Zenit.
Zenit defended for their lives all game. Garay was a monster at the back for them. Sevilla's end product and decision making was crap in the first half, but pushing Banega up to 10 and putting on Denis Suarez helped in the second half. They were a lot more intense going forward, and Vidal's runs from right back proved decisive. Bacca equalised, then Denis Suarez scored a volley from the edge of the area.
Sets-up an interesting second leg. Zenit will have Danny and Hulk back from suspension and only need to win 1-0 to go through. No doubt Sevilla will set-up defensively/counter-attacking but they aren't the most solid team and do give up chances.

Jay do you still think Banega can't play as a 10? (It might have been Dnmac that said this, though).

Signs in recent months suggest I was wrong on that one. Still think he's even better deeper, mind you.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
nah both teams will go to the CL
Unless Napoli finish 3rd and Roma finish 4th. Then only 3 will go.
So Napoli should win the EL and finish 4th so 4 Serie A teams can go to the CL.
PS: I could be wrong though.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
I think to be the only Serie A fan here to not support other Italian teams in Europe probably because I live in Italy so okay for me
but Napoli has everything to win the cup and I 've doubts Sevilla would win for 2 years in a row ... and they risk much at St. Petersburg ( Uefa hopes in Sevilla anyway , I can imagine the embarassment if there are a Russian with Ukirainans in game again )
If Sevilla wins again this year it becomes the team with most number of Uefa Cups won overcoming Inter,Juve,Liverpool and its first victory was in 2006 . True legends in this cup . For the rest I don't remind what was their most relevant result in Champions League tbh.

Can someone explain how Napoli raped Wolfsburg? This German team pretty much raped everyone else in the league (including Bayern) for months now? I just havent watched Serie A for a longggg time and I thought their level isnt this high that they can pull a result like this.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Europe is different than league , Wolfsburg showed various limits also against this Inter but we had Carrizo worst GK ever in Europa League.
Infact I thought Napoli was favorite against Wolsfburg after our match, although I could never imagine this 1-4 of course.

this game reminded me of Lyon-Bremen back in 2005..
people thought it would be a close affair between two equally matched team , it ended 10-2 for OL .

I started watching Serie A regularly when Bein Sports started up. Outside of Madrid and Barcelona I think the Serie A clubs are darn good compared to La Liga clubs not a lot of difference, if any. And, I don't know who would win in a game between Juventus and either Madrid and Barca. Maybe I'll find out.

There's a man that goes by the name of Rafa Benitez.

RWO I'm not saying they won't or can't win this EL (even if I don't think they'll even get past Napoli).
But I would suggest that you usually have to work your way there, sometimes over several seasons. Quarters is a good start.

It's not over until the fat lady sings. Wolfsburg only need to do a "Schalke vs Inter" from 2010/11, and they would go through. ^^

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
IMHO a lot of (German) teams lack confidence when playing in Europe. You can see it with most teams that don't have a history of international matches. Leverkusen are horrible, too. Yet teams that have won a pot in ancient history seem to do better, even Frankfurt, with their 99cent-store-squad did rather well two years ago, only going out to Porto extremely narrowly, despite being an objectively mediocre team.
I think it takes at least three seasons, probably more than that, of continued attempts at Europe, to get rid of the mental blocks.

I think Gladbach did pretty well, they just had some bad luck against Sevilla. (I really hope they will reach 3rd place in the BL and directly go to the CL group stage next season.)

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Gladbach have big European pedigree, this is my point. Gladbach have won lots of international trophies back in the day, they have no confidence issues, despite teams like Leverkusen having a better squad.rwo power wrote:I think Gladbach did pretty well, they just had some bad luck against Sevilla. There's teams that just imprint a winner's attitude, BMG does that, even when they suck.
