Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
I know why he's mad but why did he refuse to shake the other coach's hand he didn't make that tackle.rwo power wrote:He's mad that Schweinsteiger was kicked that harshly and might be injured. Mind you, the German WC players just came from their holidays and had practically no training before this match.
Pep wasn't too amused that he had to play this match in the first place, and even worse with players who were no match fit at all as they just came from their vacation. But money talked...

Yeah, it is bad manners, but I think he was really afraid for his players after the kicking the MLS guys gave them.
BTW, Neuer, Schweinsteiger, Lahm etc just flew with a private plane from their holidays to this match as they were contracted to do so and now they will fly back. When they are in Munich again, they made a 20 000 km tour within 34 hours just for this stupid match

There were only two bad tackles and Porter IMMEDIATELY raised his hands and apologised to Pep when they happened. Pep acting as he did after the match was completely and utterly unjustified and lacked class. Unexpected from one such as him, to be honest.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
Well, with Schweinsteiger's injury history and him getting tackled like that when playing without having any preparation for the match as he just came from his holidays and sat a couple of hours in the plane as he only arrived for the game in the US without even getting proper rest beforehand (thanks to the marketing department of Bayern, of course), I can understand there are quite some worries about his health.
Of course that doesn't excuse Pep's not-shaking the other guy's hand after the match, but from what I read they agreed that there shouldn't be any heavy tackles as it what just a show match.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
"Of course there are no excuses but here's my attempt to make excuses for it."
This isn't FIFA, a manager cannot control every action of the players and in a full 90 minutes there's going to be an instance or two where a player stops thinking a bit. The manager can only do his best to stress the nature of the match before hand and apologise if something does happen. There were only one or two instances and only one was a really serious mistake. Both were apologised for immediately upon happening. So I'm not having any of these half-hearted attempted to excuse Pep's show of petulance in shouting at Porter even after the apology, refusing to shake hands, and storming off the match. I like Pep personally, and I think he does tend to be one of the more level headed and respectful and respectable managers in the modern game. But what he did today was childish and unnecessary. There's no reason to try to defend or excuse it.

Pep refuses to shake hands with the MLS all star coach. Apparently he wasn't happy with the teams aggressiveness towards his players. Grow up man

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
Watched parts of the game and the scene now and I can see why Pep is angry, it's an unnecessary, inappropriate and nasty challenge, he steps on Schweini's ankle, and far in our half.
Our international players just came back from holiday yesterday ffs, normally they would never play a minute in a game.
The only reason they're coming on is for entertainment and to honour the game, it's a couple of minutes before the end of game too.
That being said, he should have enough composure to shake the guy's hand though, the guy was feeling bad anyway.

Admittedly Pep overreacted, but I understand his anger. The season not too far off and Kroos departure gives him a few headaches in midfield department and then they go and injury Schweini with the season about the begin for Bayern.

Pep being a cry baby as usual, I see. I understand his frustrations, but no need to make such a scene. Keep that in private. Especially in the US where it's important to highlight Bayern to 'new' fans.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
yeah, might have to do with the fact most of our first team was on holiday until yesterday
I can't imagine our defense will actually be Rafinah-Martinez-Alaba lol, I don't even think we'll play a three man defense as a standard.

what happened to badstu? being rested?
yes mate, i know about your starters.
i expect this from you
boateng-javi-dante
lham-piggy-thiago-alaba
robben-lewandowski-ribery
or gotze
muller lewandowski, the attacking trio can change, but my problem with that formation is that you are forced to leave many of your star attackers on the bench.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
the pitch was was artificial and Ribery and Badstuber were being left out due to them just coming back from injury, not to risk anything.
Don't forget Badstuber was out almost 2 years with successive cruciate ligament tears, so we'll have to take it easy with him.
The WC players actually came back from holiday and flew from München to Portland just for the game, arrived only hourse earlier.
So usually they shouldn't play a game without training at all, and Pep gave them 10 minutes just to show them.
That's why I understand his anger, the challenge on Schweini was really, really nasty, borderline red card in a competitive game.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
as for the lineup, no idea. the one you put is probably close, though it may even require to leave another midfielder out if Pep plays Lahm in CM and Höjbjerg, or Rode, play the RWB.
As for the attacking players, I know. We have Götze, Müller, Ribery, Robben, Lewandowski, all of them should start but one or two can't.
And then Shaquiri and Pizarro, both of whom deserve gametime too.
We'll see. Last year was even more crowded, but we had a lot of injuries.
Thiago isn't back until September earliest, Schweinsteiger is injured also now (though apparently not badly).

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
Poor show from Guardiola there. He obviously feared for the players after those tackles, but goodness me that's a huge slight against a coach who has always been a humble competitor to all of his opponents. Caleb Porter did not deserve that type of disrespect last night. I struggle to think what coach actually does. I don't care how bad the tackle was. I'm honestly astonished by the lack of sportsmanship from Pep there.

Not surprising from Guardiola but at the same time, still pretty disappointing from Guardiola. Don't wanna make a big deal about it but watching that non shaking of Porter's hand really is of bad taste.
Hopefully Pep calmed down after and went and make amends.

Re: 2014/15 Pre-Season Discussion Mk. II
Bayern Munich have made it clear that Bastian Schweinsteiger's ankle injury is nothing to be concerned about.
The German champions went down 2-1 to an MLS All-Stars outfit on Wednesday, despite taking the lead through a stunning strike from new signing Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern coach Pep Guardiola was unimpressed with the over-zealous nature of some of the All-Stars' challenges, and the Spaniard refused to shake the hand of opposite number Caleb Porter immediately after the final whistle.
Schweinsteiger, only introduced as a substitute for Juan Bernat with 10 minutes to go, picked up an ankle problem but a message on the club's official Twitter account calmed any fears of any serious injury.
"Update on @BSchweinsteiger: He has a bruised ankle but nothing serious," it read. "Get well soon, Basti!"
Bayern return to competitive action next week when they take on Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup at the home of their opponents.
