Honorable mentions: Jose Mourinho, Luis Enrique

(surely forgot somebody)

No word about Ancelotti or Klopp simply because they're not on a job currently.

No one really stands out apart from Pep and Messi tbh

Pep
Messi/Enrique
Jose
Simeone I guess eventhough he is one dimensional.
Ancelotti since he won the CL recently

Enrique received a honorable mention from me because he's a treble winner, you sweet pie. Real Madrid has never won a treble mind you.

Also, Wenger is a great coach. I rate him above (selected by you) Fatty Benitez.

I think the undisputed top 3 are Ancelotti, Pep and Mourinho. After that, I think Simeone is in the consensus although clearly not at their level, and perhaps Klopp.

simeone....all the rest have a bunch of resources in relation to their team and their league. you can have all the stars and all the resources and support from the board and still lose, however, when you have it and win, its a little meh for me. great players need good coaches, but coaches rely more on the players. that simeone has done what he has done with little resources, and at a club that had managerial merry go rounds, ownership problems with the late jesus gil and was in the toilet....and when i say toilet i don't mean a team that had superstars and didn't succeed cos of laziness. i mean a perpetual europa league team(and sometimes they didn't even make europa) that only signed leftovers from other clubs

not to mention, the work simeone has done in argentina especially with estudiantes. i reckon with the similar support these other best coaches get from their board, he could succeed at a major club. i don't see any of these so called best coaches pulling off what he pulled off with atleti, considering the fact that atleti are a selling club. simeone is my number one pick...not sure a 2,3,4 and 5 is necessary cos i have doubts about many managers

btw despite ancelotti still being in the business i consider him one from the previous era with the likes of lippi, trappatoni, capello, ferguson et al...granted all of them had good teams, but the competition seemed a lot more vibrant...trap for instance had to face gullit's milan, diego's napoli, strong inter and roma sides...lippi, carlo and capello battled it out when like 7 teams could fight for serie a, so you could watch and see manager moves they were making and most of those 7 sides could sign big players too....so they get a separate kind of respect in my book. those were chess games, not "blow you out cos we have all the resources and make subtle changes here and there" management

For me the undisputed 3 are

Guardiola
Ancelotti
Simeone

Mourinho is debatable as I don't believe he's any better than Rafa or Klopp. So it's between the 3 of them for the other 2 spots.

Simeone is a great motivator, team builder, and he improves his players (imo one of the greatest hallmarks of a talented coach) turning good or great ones into world class. But he's not a great tactician, with him, you know what to expect and you know it won't deviate too much, and this keeps him from responding to games and change them as they happen. This is what separates him from the truly elite in my opinion.

I don't believe Mourinho to be any sort of tactical mastermind either. Not any better than Simeone. Rafa shits on him as a tactician. It's the man management aspect of his managing that Mou excels far above the rest. Similar to the traits you listed for Simeone except he's done it longer. The reason I rate Simeone above Mou currently is because Mou has NEVER been able to sustain his success past 2 seasons.

While they share similarities, I don't think Mou really improves his players. He trusts and brings in veterans and seems unwilling to take chances with young ones, which obviously keeps him from teaching them. One of his greatest weaknesses, but you can't argue with his record.

I do think Jose is trying to change the whole not trusting youth, thing.

He has been big fans of both Varane and Zouma, despite their age, and trusted Zouma in 7 out of 8 EPL games this season. He has also shown willingness to play RLC and Kenedy even when chasing a game this season. It hasn't worked that well, but the willingness to change is present.

Anyway, my top 5 would be:
Pep,
Mourinho,
Klopp,
Ancelotti,
Simeone.

Mourinho has won so much that he has to be there. He's probably in his worst ever moment right now, but it's way too soon to drop him from the top-5.

Easily my ass. Both of those guys have knocked Mourinho out in the CL semis. Rafa twice.

You can argue it of course given how much Mourinho has achieved but you can't say 'easily better' because the other two are pretty *bleep* great as well.

Guardiola needs to be destroyed 3 times in a row in the CL semi finals to finally prove that he's overrated?

Is a coach only good if he has won something? What about those who are very good, but coach underdog teams or youth teams and make players better there? *just curious*
