Wayne Rooney demands Manchester United stars save their season after calling crisis meeting

Wayne Rooney has led a rallying cry to save Manchester United’s troubled season.

The United captain called a crisis summit after the club’s worst run of results in 17 years left boss Louis van Gaal under mounting pressure.

The Dutchman could even be axed if United lose at Stoke on Boxing Day but the players remain determined to turn results around with the fans increasingly unhappy.

Mirror Sport understands that Jose Mourinho has been asked not to consider any job offers without first informing United as Van Gaal is on the brink.

United fear Mourinho will get other offers if they do not move quickly

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reassured Van Gaal he is not in immediate danger but that promise will not extend until beyond the Stoke game.

Woodward travelled to the club’s London offices on Tuesday for transatlantic discussions with joint chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer.

They must decide their next move with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson also having been consulted.

lol if anyone should be thankful and happy that lvg still is not axed, it has to be rooni. Any other coach and the guy wouldnt even be on the bench let alone on the pitch.

Some captains and senior players have too too much powers in today's footballing world. I cant imagine the kind of rollicking Sir Alex would have given him if he only dared to suggest another coach
