The offside rule, obviously, does not specify between GK and defender. It just says "closer than the 2nd opponent".

So when the opposition GK is running around the middle circle, you can be offside even if an opposition defender is standing right in goal

Shiit, i honestly did not know the rule is formulated that way.

I'm always puzzled at first by these situations too, as they are rare and 'look' onside.
But it makes sense, and fair play to the linesmen for keeping their heads straight.

This one was pretty obvious, but I've seen tricky ones where it took me a while to figure out why the linesmen were right.
