The actual story mode. It feels like an unneeded addition to a game in desperate need of improvements in its core gameplay and existing game modes.

I don't know, it could be the precursor to something good. Depends on how restrictive it is about who you're playing as and who you're playing for. If there's something like a choice system that effects the outcome of the story then it'd potentially be interesting.
