http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-09/rio-2016-camille-lacourt-wades-into-sun-yang-doping-conversation/7710956
French swimmer Camille Lacourt has waded into the Olympic doping controversy, casting doubt on new 200m freestyle champion Sun Yang.
Lacourt, who came fifth in the 100m backstroke final just after Sun's triumph, said swimming was becoming like athletics "with two or three doped in each final".
The Rio swimming contest has become the new centre of the international doping storm unleashed by a report for the World Anti-Doping Agency, which found the Russian Government organised the use of banned substances and manipulated doping tests.
Sun, who served a three-month ban in 2014, has been caught in a doping controversy after Australian 400m gold medallist Mack Horton labelled him a drug cheat, which kicked off a furore between the two countries' teams.
Sun secretly served a three-month ban after testing positive for trimetazidine, which Chinese officials said he had taken for years to treat an existing heart problem before the stimulant was added to World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list in January 2014.
And now Lacourt, who finished 0.27 of a second behind Australia's Mitch Larkin in the 100m backstroke final, has criticised the Chinese star.
"Sun Yang, he pisses purple," Lacourt told French radio station RMCsport after his race.
"When I see the 200m podium I want to be sick. I prefer to remember the crowd that cheered when we went out.
"I am very sad when I see my sport getting like this. I have the impression I am looking at athletics, with two or three doped in each final.
"I hope that (swimming's world governing body) FINA is going to do react and stop this massacre, because it is getting sad."

nvm
This is why I don't watch this shit.
It's pathetic. Even 30% of BCCI's turnover would go a long long way towards developing other sports in the country in the hope of delivering more medals.
Now all the pressure is on Saina, the boxers and wrestlers to deliver some medals.
I got hopes in hockey for bronze.

I really don't care for doping conspiracies. Rather be ignorant until people are caught.

They don't, They just don't pursue the other sports because of 0 reward unless the best and 0 sustenance in the country if not in the top bracket.
So basically comes down to the fact would rather stay in a 3bhk flat after becoming an engineer or doctor or pursue your dream may not be the best and live in a 1 bhk apartment with a poverty job and less education with 2 kids in the suburbs.
I dropped football because i knew i wasnt good enough to make a living out of it in Asia, If i was European with the same skills i would have 100% tried to go pro.

Re: Summer Olympics 2016
Ah okay, makes sense. We have so much of security grit due to our welfare in Denmark that makes us be competitive in so many different things. Not elite in a lot.
Really wish more countries would get a wellfare system with more of a security net that would allow for dream chasing.

That's where the money is.
People taking up different sports aren't getting enough exposure and likewise money. Naturally the infrastructure is also going to be shit.
Badminton for example only these days has good infrastructure because of the foundation created by a couple of badminton players when they did something noteworthy on the International stage. Only then the funds and sponsors flew in and likewise popularity of the sport.
So basically sports atheletes here have to achieve something heroic by themselves otherwise it will just stagnate and the infrastructure is going to remain poor.

Well, there's much else at night than swimming.
Only a basket game and a volley game atm.
I would agree with you, but a lot of Olympic coverage isn't live. NBC is showing men's gymnastics atm with no indication that it's live :/
Was supposed to write 'not much' swimming is the last event to end today, that was an hour ago.
You only have one channel? Danish TV got 7-9 channels showing depending on how many live events.
All NBC held channels (NBC, NBCSN, MSNBC) and a select few other channels (like USA). Some of the other channels switch off of Olympics later on in the night when the primetime Olympics come on for NBC. The other NBC channels continue programming (which I watch), but primetime on NBC holds the most valuable events (swimming with Phelps, women's gymnastics, diving).
I don't really have a problem with that, it's that NBC clearly tries to draw the biggest crowd with their main channel and primetime and prefer to show swimming semifinals than medalling competitions (unless it's the US winning). Example: even a popular event like men's gymnastics was shoved to the wayside and then turned off (started programming late, cut it off when primetime ended) because the US men's team wasn't doing well. That's an event I and many others were interested in watching, and expected to see. Instead I learned if I wanted to watch it I would have had to do so live earlier in the day online. Ok, that's all well and fine, but I disagree with showing a bunch of swimming semifinals instead of these events.
Tl;dr NBC tries their best to pull people into Olympics primetime on NBC and then oversaturates it with swimming, even semifinals a lot of people couldn't give a shit about. Neglects other event unless the US does well.

Re: Summer Olympics 2016
Yeah, of course NBC tries to get the best ratings.
It's just not a case for Danish television luckily as it's not that commercially oriented. None of the channels showing Olympics have commercials, and most of them are free (well, I don't pay license).
Lochte just killed everyone in the last 200m for USA
