What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
Do anyone has any idea? He is taking away people's rights, religious laws are getting passed, political opponents and media personnel are jailed. What is his plan?

There is a referendum in Turkey in a couple of months to change the system from Parliamentary to Presidential, basically handing majority of the power to president without needing consent of parliament.
Hence all his campaigning and the stand off with Netherlands and other European countries.
If he gets the YES vote at the referendum, he can stay as president until 2029.

Power. To become a full fledged dictator.

RIP Turkey.
Was one of the progressive state from the Muslim world.
What are the chances of election being rigged ?
Re: What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
The chances of the eleciton itself being rigged are very slim, Turkey is a NATO ally and routinely has international supervision of it's elections.
That doesn't mean a level playing field, however. Erdogan has over the past few years jailed a lot of opposition leaders, and drove almost all independent media out of business, either closing them down, replacing their leadership, or straight-up arresting journalists.
So the election very likely won't be rigged, but the public discourse is already heavily lopsided in Erdogans favor, and there is a real atmosphere of dread within Turkey and the turkish Diaspora.
As some of you guys know, back when I joined the Forum I was just moving from Bristol to Mannheim, Germany, and at the time I went back to university, so I was broke AF, and moved to a mainly immigrant neighborhood, where rents were low. I got lots of Turkish friends (or Germans of Turkish descent, for that matter), and those that publicly spoke out against Erdogan, not even in a radical, or violent matter, don't dare enter Turkey. Some of their relatives have been arrested, and some have had homes and other real estate repossessed.
Do not mistake what Erdogan is doing for anything other than what it is: the attempt to install a dictatorship.
It's just not too sure what he'll do afterwards. If he really is that religious, or is just using that element to cement his authoritarianism; former allies of his have different projections on this...

Re: What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
Terrible guy. If people are voting for this asshole then they deserve to suffer afterwards.
Re: What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
The problem is, though, with all the influence Erdogan has on the media, people can't really make informed decisions anymore. So while I in theory agree with you, I don't think the majority of people even know what, or who, they're really voting for.
I mean they know they're voting for Erdogan, but all the shit he does doesn't even get reported in Turkey. It's all conspiracy theories and state propaganda, just like it is in Russia, or Saudi Arabia, or the like.

Erdogan just said Muslims in Europe should have 5 babies
This is going to end well. If people aren't already suspicious then they are now. Erdogan clearly has some plan to bring caliphate and will use the Turkish diaspora for it in future. Fun times ahead.

Dutch elections: Turkish minister claims 'holy wars will soon begin in Europe' after Geert Wilders beaten
Minister claims there is no difference between liberal politicians and 'fascist' far-right leader

Finally something interesting happening. Nothing more intriguing than wars of religion.

He wants to divide and conquer. The more he irritates the West, the more suspicious Turkish immigrants will be viewed, they will in turn feel alienated, and turn back to the motherland. Profit.

Yeah, 'or the like':
This video is exactly the kind of conspiracy nuttery I'm talking of. Utter rubbish. Propaganda to make reasonable anti-diffamation and hate speech laws equal to the mass-arrest of independent journalists in autocratic states. Disgraceful.

Re: What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
I've observed intently as it's become more and more transparent that people are either incapable or unwilling to distinguish between 'hateful' speech and speech they hate.
Now we can also add between 'fake' news and news they either find inconvenient or comes with a different perspective/serves a different narrative to their own.
This politically retarded mindset does infest government and motivates the things described in the video.

Re: What exactly is Erdogan's plan ?
The Turkish prime minister has claimed victory in the referendum to grant President Recep Tayyip Erdogan new powers, based on unofficial results.
