Houston has proposed that free agency begin earlier- before the NBA draft. I think that makes a lot of sense and allows team to better prepare for the draft and make moves earlier.

Thoughts?

Only scenario where he doesn't re-sign is if he's maxed imo, which I can't see happening. Don't know where the offer would come from.

that's exactly what they are doing though, they are going to risk it all on Kahwi because hey have no assurance they can close on Lebron and/or Paul.

Lakers seem to wan to go all out this summer. They are not waiting for 2019

Obviously there was a hint of trolling in this, but also a hint of my truthful opinion.
Not comparing their playing styles, but their situations, coming off a scary injury Cousins could very well turn out to be a problem to work with physically and chemistry-wise i.e a misfit in whichever place he lands next season.
We'll see.

Lakers have made the qualifying offer to Randle as of now, which means he'll use 12m of the cap.

Can always renounce to make 12m cap room if a deal happens.

Don't know if this means much yet.

Kawhi is coming off a long injury but it wasn't like Cousin's injury or anything. I'm not sure about his particular injury but it doesn't seem like it will have long lasting, debilitating effects on him. He played a little this season and honestly looked fine when he played, just a little rusty.

Plus, one reason it's been so long is they're being careful. I'd trade for Kawhi if I'm LA. Healthy Kawhi is a top 5 player in the league and he's still got a lot in the tank at his age.

If Kawhi is the make or break piece in signing LeBron and George/Chris Paul then absolutely, you must go for it

However, if the Lakers miss out on LeBron then they may as well wait a season and sign Kawhi in free agency next summer, but could still take Paul George on now
