Would Lampard walk into Man u and should Essien retire?
Heart breakers and risk takers
So far this transfer period we've taken a few risks and broken a few hearts along the way. It all started with the risk of bringing in Villas-Boas and breaking the hearts of Porto fans as they were hoping he could emulate Mourinho. Not only that but we spent 15m to secure him which only elevates the risk of AVB. Don't get me wrong, I believe he'll do wonderfully well but he remains a risky move until he proves himself.
Now we have spent 9m on Courtois who is yet to be proven in the higher leagues of Europe. This move while only a small risk, due to his age and the fact we're going to loan him, is still a risk. We also broke the hearts of Genk fans who loved Courtois to bits which helped him win a few awards last season.
Romeu I see as the biggest risk of all. As far as I can tell he will be Essien's replacement with Mikel finally getting that starting place. Now this is risky, if it pays off we'll do amazingly well in the league but if it doesn't we're stuck with a inconsistant player who is out of form most of the time and a young DM who isn't EPL ready.
The most risky part of all of this is that we haven't yet secured him. While the fee is agreed, personal terms are not and won't be until the 21st of aug atleast. Now what if we can't agree and he heads back to barca? We've got 10 days to find another DM which would cause us to overpay some club to buy what would most likely be an average player or we'll bring up a youth player who isn't ready. I know this is unlikely but it is very possible and a rather scary thought. There is not all the much we can do about this a part from hope he agrees, fingers crossed.
With Pastore looking more and more likely by the day there is another risk as he is very much unproven in England. This will most likely mean we will have spent over 50m on risks which is quite a lot of money. However, if these risks pay off we will do very well in the league and in Europe as well as having a great young squad with a great young manager but if they fail we will have wasted more money which does seem to be a slight trend for us. But hey, whats life without risks? It certainly makes this season more exciting.

Yes but the risks we've taken are bigger risks than say Messi to arsenal or Neuer to bayern.

Lampard will fit in at MU anytime... but I'd rather have an option to see Essien move to a lesser challenging league rather than retire. He still has a lot to offer. And well, all transfers involved with Chelsea are pretty risky lol
