arsenal in for montolivo
Arsenal have joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign Fiorentina outcast Riccardo Montolivo.
The midfielder has refused to sign a new contract and will be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Viola must sell now to avoid losing their investment.
An offer from Milan was rejected and director Pantaleo Corvino warned “he will only be sold abroad.”
Bayern Munich were the hot favourites to provide €10m for Italian international Montolivo, but they have competition.
Today it is suggested that Arsenal are also interested in the midfielder, who they see as a replacement for Barcelona buy Cesc Fabregas.
The Gunners are under pressure to improve their squad after a dismal 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
i'm sure most of you will poo-poo this, but he could do really well under wenger. if you want to see game footage of him, just watch the highlights from the italy-spain game. and his price wont deter wenger

Re: arsenal in for montolivo
I suppose we could slot Montolivo alongside Song and push Jack higher up, or vice versa.
The midfield needs some fresh faces, Ramsey has way too big a role right now and looked hopeless vs Liverpool.

Bayern are nurturing Kroos so unless they want to Replace Tymoschuk with Montolivio, I doubt they're really after him.

Re: arsenal in for montolivo
Seems like most of you don't know much about him.
Understandable.
Monty was coined as Pirlo's heir as although he hasn't fulfilled the potential.... it is in fact there.
Monty can use both feet and shot like a rocket from them.
He is a natural leader who can defend quite well for a DLP. He has strength and pace as well.
Did I mention he has superb vision, passing and crossing?
Whats the problem?
Monty tends to crumble under pressure as although he has performed in countless big games (Bayern, Espana, Liverpool etc) he needs gets that "deer in the headlights" look when under pressure.
But... under the proper midfield protection (song bilong, frimpong) along with Wenger's supreme man-management, tutelage and leadership, he can turn into the WC player he was touted as.
He just turned 26 and would be a great signing for Arsenal.

Arquitecto, is he good in the ACM position?
Because I know his quality, but I usually see him sitting deep as a regista and not really the playmaker we need.

It similar to the Fabregas situation.
Although Fab's is more natural and meant for the DLP role, his attacking qualities are brought out in the AM.
Montolivo, when he plays DLP, he seems to be comfortable with the luxury of having an overview of the field as his link-up play, long passes, crosses and orchestration is brought out. Plus, his defense is solid for a playmaker.
In the advanced role, he obvious reacts and plays quicker, his long-range shots are exploited, his excellent final ball capability is brought out along with a specific orchestration for the advanced role.
In conclusion, the man can do anything as his versatility is underrated.
As mentioned, his mental side is a weakness as tends to be easily under pressure at times and can go invisible.
But he has been showing improvement in that side with Fiorentina and especially Prandelli's Italia.

Re: arsenal in for montolivo
I see. Sounds just like our man, then. Hopefully the rumors are true and he moves his ass. There's no one interested now that Aquilani's heading off to Milan.Arquitecto wrote:Sushi Master wrote:Arquitecto, is he good in the ACM position?
