Re: The Official Mata Thread
This is fecking pissing me off! We're selling him to Utd when they won't give us Rooney.
Just look at what Ozil did for Arsenal or RVP did for UTD last season. This is idiotic!

Exactly.

Rooney's importance to Man Utd is not comparable to that of Mata's to Chelsea.

Re: The Official Mata Thread
I think the difference is that Mata wants out. Rooney didn't as much.
I have dealt with us selling him, but it's to Utd which bothers me the most.

You're not getting it. Mata's importance to us is irrelevant. He's one of the best players in the league and we're handing him to a rival.

Re: The Official Mata Thread
Mata is a world class AM, why would we strengthen Utd so much? He is in the realm of Ozil, see what he's done to Arsenal?

Re: The Official Mata Thread
ffs this couldnt be any stupider
We'd be back to where we were this time last season with 4 AMs covering three postions and we'd be more or less throwing United a life line back into a CL place
Can you imagine how much better United would be if they had Mata fedding Rooney and RVP, it wouldnt matter how awful their backline and CMs are because they'd just end up out scoring the other team every week
This is a big moment for the club here, if United fail to qualify for the CL this season and next season they may well be headed down the path Liverpool took over the last five or so years which would make life much easier for the club. Give them Mata though and they're an alright chance of grabbing 4th place and rebuilding over the off season

Re: The Official Mata Thread
^ This is the biggest for me. United are on the decline and there is a very real chance they won't finish in a CL place this season, meaning their revenue will drop, top players won't want to join them and all their stars will invariably want out. A real chance to put them well off the map for seasons to come. Why throw them a life-jacket? Makes absolutely no sense.

Agree, fitty.
They needed a third party just to make the bid, that should be evidence enough of their situation.

Future (english jewel?) theres no way United arent still a threat to us, they could well be back in the title hunt in a season or twos time, remember it wasnt that long ago we finished 6th

Re: The Official Mata Thread
In a cynical way this May or may not help us this season. We do not play united anymore, but united still have Liverpool, city, and arsenal to play. A reguvenated united with mata may be able to drop points for city or arsenal through the stretch of this season. Or Moyes will continue to suck and united will stick with how they are on the table, anyway it's not hurting us much for this season, now next season may totally screw us with a more amped up united.

As bad as it sounds, I'd rather see Mata play well at Utd than play poorly.

Just don't see Mata alone being the difference between a loss to those sides and a result.

Re: The Official Mata Thread
How many times did he win us a game last season? Yeah, he can be the difference maker. Especially with Rooney or RVP in front of him. They'll put away more chances than our CF's could.

Mata is my favourite player alongside Lampard. I couldn't wish for Mata to play poorly, where ever he goes.

Re: The Official Mata Thread
I can. His 2 years here have been fantastic. I love him as a player and even more as a bloke. But in no way do I want him or any other player of ours doing well for a rival just to fulfill some fictional sense of football fraternity. I hope he fails spectacularly. Because doing so will mean the best for Chelsea, which is all I'm bothered about.

Re: The Official Mata Thread
I'd feel the same if it were Lamps at a rival, JT at a rival, Didier at a rival, etc.
What vested interest do you have in him succeeding there? Only the satisfaction of some farcical sense of magnanimity. Means f-all to me.

So naturally you'd like to see Drogba put a few past us next month then, yes? After all he's an adored player and we'd all just love to see him do well, no?

If you recall, I didn't want Gala in the draw for that reason. I don't want to see Droggles fail miserably against us. Knowing him, he'll score regardless.
