Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud remains hopeful of bringing back Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

Triaud is still fuming about the nature of his departure, but both he and boss Francis Gillot would be happy for the 27-year-old to return and are still expecting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to call them back.

"I did not see Chamakh playing in an Arsenal shirt," Triaud told L'Equipe. "So I told myself 'why not try and sign him back? I talked about it to my entourage and of course the coach.

"I still have a good relationship with the man, but less so with the player, as he annoyed me when he left Les Girondins at the end of his contract.

"Could he be back now? Ask him the question. I am just expecting some good news."

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh is being linked with Anzhi.

Moroccan media sources say Chamakh is on the January shopping list of Anzhi owner Suleymane Kerimov.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud admitted last night he had failed in attempts to contact Chamakh about a return to the French club.

Arsenal are eyeing Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The Daily Star says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sent chief scout Steve Rowley and goalkeeping coach Gerry Peyton to check out the £1m-rated teenager in Stuart Pearce’s side’s 5-0 win over Iceland last week.

Butland, who is on loan at Cheltenham, has been on Wenger’s radar for a while.

Manchester City and Sunderland are also eyeing the 6ft 4in 18-year-old, who is tipped to become England’s future No.1

Arsenal midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup struck twice for the reserves in victory over Norwich City yesterday.

The exciting Dutch prospect is wanted on-loan by several Belgian clubs, including Ghent.

Ozyakup is keen to move out on-loan in January and did his chances no harm in front of watching scouts with last night’s performance.

Inter Milan are competing with Arsenal for Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou.

The Cameroon international, 26, is being chased by Inter ahead of the January market.

Chedjou has admitted he's previously turned down a move to Juventus, but could be on the move from Lille in the coming months.

Along with Inter, Arsenal and Porto are also in contact with Lille for Chedjou, according to French media sources

Most these rumours are induced by agents or born of yellow journalism.

As AW pointed out, we have scouts who work throughout the year. Probably, nobody outside the club hierarchy even knows all the scouts working for the club! So it is easy to fabricate a story, spin a yarn, concoct a cock-and-bull tale, (you get the idea) and make a quick buck.

When you associate the rumour with a (in)famous or a rich club (read: Oil Money), you are bound to attract attention.

We already know how much a quote as simple as "I like to party once in a while" can be morphed and reported as "I want to get hammered, do meth and rape a girl in Timbuktu while blindfolded and with my hands tied behind my back once every week". :coffee:

Jan Vertonghen does seem to be very highly-rated. Would be happy with him or Cahill in Jan. Any signing of a centre-back will have to be after Squillaci leaves and Miquel goes out on loan I suspect.

Unless we offload Squi, Djourou and loan out Miquel then even then where would Vertonghen fit in? Vermaelen is an obvious starter, Mertesacker isn't gonna be a 10 million bench player, Koscielny is developing rapidly. How would 4 quality CBs be content? We don't need him at the moment, if we didn't have Per we would.

The future of Peru whizkid Andy Polo remains undecided.

The 17 year-old Universitario striker was expected to be joining Schalke, but the Germans' last offer was only for €2.2 million.

Liverpool and Arsenal are also interested in Polo and are prepared to outbid their German rivals - as are Real Madrid, which are willing to go to €9.5 million to land young Polo.

Fiorentina are expected to sell Juan Manuel Vargas in January.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring developments and have been encouraged with news that Vargas is set to be made available.

Peru international Vargas is a left-sided midfielder who can play at left-back and on the wing.

Those close to the player say he favours a move to England should he leave Florence.
