Charlotte vs Knicks tonight. Kemba back in his home city and Madison Square Garden, he always seems to light it up at MSG, so hopefully EZ-Pass(as he's called in Rucker Park) has a good game. I'm sure the NY fans will give him props too when he's subbed in.

And hopefully Boston can keep it going tonight vs NJ. On paper we should win obviously.

Kobe is a boss in the post because of leverage and footwork.

Being strong in the post isnt just about weight, its about center of mass and using levarage.

youtube Chuck Hayes defending Garnett to see what I mean, but generally just watch Chuck Hayes defend. He has strong legs and he gets up under guys and its almost impossible to push him off his space.

Kobe uses his body well, doesnt matter if people have similar weights or whatever, he uses his body very well and uses leverage. Then you add his footwork, its over.

As for the game, untill we defend we will always suck.

Bynum going 20-20, Kobe getting 37 on 50% shooting...no shock, we have no post defender nor swingman defender.

We can play offence and hang around in those games, but at soon as it comes to stopping someone theres a problem.

Tonight we face the Clips, a more winnable game but still dont think we will.

Rose one of the best point defenders? Not for me.

Lowry is up there with anyone imo.

Yeah I was going to include Lowry, I thought he was pretty good watching him. Haven't seen enough of him though compared to the others. But what I've seen he's good, but not Rondo.


Even when Kemba's struggling with his shot, he's doing other things, 4 assists in just 9 minutes. Why he only has 9 minutes up until the 4th quarter, only Paul Silas knows. But hey at least he's not Larry Brown.

Edit: right as I type that he drains a jumper and a 3 back to back. Knicks looking like they're gunna go down to Charlotte at home.

I like Rose as a defender.......other guys who are considered more elite have very good instincts on the perimiter for the steal but I think Rose has different aspects that make him an elite defender.

Here's some pretty good statistics from mysynergy.They claim that watch every play of every game and categorize the plays including who has the defensive assignments for every play. They track the initial defender on every play and then credit or fault him if the player he is defending scores or does not.

His versatility, shot blocking and ability to produce defence against other good-great point guards in the leauge edge it for me personally, but I can see why many would take the shorter more instictive PG's like Lowry,Rondo and CP3 ahead of him.

Im not a stat guy, especially defensively. I wont discount them and they make for intresting reading but I trust my eyes more to be honest.

I mean do the stats account that Jason Kidd gaurds more shooting gaurds?

Then you look at things like pick and roll D. Rose is very good, but how much of that is to do with he has Noah hedging on picks whereas say Williams had Okur and things like this?

Also, how about the fact Rose is a major scorer and therefore tires guys out on that end?

It says it tracks the plays and credits or faults the guy right? But what about say if Dallas are playing Orlando. Kidd comes off his man to double Dwight and his man scores the open jumper from the kick out? Or what if say Terry drops down, there is rotation and its Kidd´s man who gets an open shot even after Kidd makes a correct rotation? How can we assign blame in these cases?

What if its Chicago´s policy not to double and therefore Rose sticks on his man?


Anyway, intresting stats none the less.

Overall, point gaurd D might matter the very least. Most teams would like the opponant point gaurd (usually the best passer) to score rather then rack up assists.

^True....I actually wouldn't have included J.Kidd....ii just copied and pasted the table.

There are probably thousands(literally) of variables that affect these stats.......Deron certainly suffered in the P&R............but I mean it's so variable you know...............1/2 the time it's Boozer who has to come out and most of the time he dosen't do a good job.

The burnout thing is a good point.

I haven't watched him religously and I certainly haven't watched any of the others religously, but I think he's a great defender.

Him and Rondo have similar stats across the board...obviously they use their distinct qualities to achieve sucess there.....defensively Rondo gets as much help as anyone in the leauge and the blocks cancel out the steals.....etc etc.If you use that as a benchmarks, he's certainly elite.

I'm not gonna lie....it's certainly a matter of preference.....as you said defending the point isn't the most important job.....but as a PG bbeing able to defend is important and there's where he gets it.He can defend SG's and probably SF's, and is a less refined version of Wade in his SG defense.
