Preseason discussion

Now that pre season has started lets see what Benitez has in mind regarding positions and where to place our players. if the guy goes back to Ronaldo on the left then he has effectively handed the league to Barca before its even started. He has retained two out and out cantera wingers which means he intends to play through the wings like Carlo did so no change there which is good but instead of inverted wingers I think he will play two out and wingers who will cross until we break Uniteds cross record

Wonder where he sees the players playing I have a sneeky feeling it'll be like this:

DDG/Navas
Carvajal/Danilo-Pepe/Varane-Ramos/Nacho-Marcelo/Coentrao
Modric/Casemiro-Kroos/Illarra
Isco/Lucas-James/Benzema-Bale/Cherychev
Ronaldo/Jese

Midfield will be alot stronger but I don't know how I feel about the wingers occupying our wingbacks space

Lets see anyways. Our first game is against Roma in a weeks time and if I am not mistaken every player is back in training apart from DDG who needs to hurry the hell up and put some bloody pressure on Perez

so why would jese or cr play cf ahead of benz? cr as cf is destined for failure

that formation doesn't look strong. and frankly, i'm not sure how strong our team is for this campaign. i certainly don't want to see attacking midfielders playing in central midfield, or central midfielders playing defensive mid. assuming we get de gea or kiko casilla, how do you guys like the look of the team? and i don't mean from now till january, i mean the long haul, are you confident we can challenge on all three fronts? two will de gea or kiko casilla be our last signings? and who would you like to have join the team? i just don't want to see a midfield of james, kroos and isco, or james, kroos, isco and modric. i've never been confident in that system, its okay against the getafes, valladolids of this world, but against elite opposition its exposed imo

we've had our best clasico performance in years with Isco-Modric-Kroos-James. That's the way to go imo, but let's see what rafa's plans are.

Pretty interested to see how ronaldo will be used this year. He's lost a bit of pace but he still has impressive physical attributes and is much more aggressive recently then before. He holds up the ball better and can actually play his back to goal.
Hopefully we see this when the season starts

Most likely gonna be this. Otamendi possibly replacing Ramos if he leaves.

benitez does not use 442 he always uses 4231. I have no issue with that because that makes our midfield stronger but I wonder where he will fit everyone in especially if Ronaldo is our new n9

im not buying cr as our 9 until i see it in action, never seen a great lone cf performance from cr ever, either play 2 forwards or keep cr on the left

We still have plenty of work to do, I have no idea how we're gonna lineup.
Our starting defence is probably set with Marcelo,Varane,Ramos,Danilo with Carvajal sharing play-time with Danilo. I also wouldn't be surprised if we get a replacement for Coentrao,somebody who can give some competition to Marcelo. We're also probably gonna get a defensive prospect in the name of Jesus Vallejo. I don't think we're replacing Benzema, Ronaldo couldn't work without him. Our MF is probably gonna be :
Ronaldo-James-Bale
Modrić-Kroos with Isco and Casemiro getting some playing time. I'm kinda bummed because I wish Isco could be a starter, he deserves it. We also need a new GK and a striker. The only way I would like Benzema to leave is if it means that Isco is a 100 % starter.

Apparently Benitez tried a 4-2-3-1 in training with Bale behind Benzema, Ronaldo on the left and Isco on the right.

Bale would ideally be on the bench but if not on the left. Ronaldo and Benzema uptop.

some of you amazes me, why would cr want to play as cf? he sucks at it, you all can fantasize until next season, the team is awful without a true cf playing and cr chooses where he wants to play and that the left.

why would benz bench in a euro year being held in france? we are not selling him so he is gonna expect to start as cf well.

its pretty clear when you think about it.

I dont think Benitez gives a crap about the Euro coming up. If Ronaldo plays lw its because he wants to play there. His physical decline makes him better suited to playing CF and Benitez will realise that rather quickly

benzema cares like any top player and wants to be in top form going in, he expects to start he has earned the right, and Rafa must respect that, regardless of what you think, benzema isn't some second rate player that can be benched.

prime cr sucked at cf but declining cr is gonna muscle cb's all game, that fantasy.... Proud

cr as lone striker is nonsense and cr himself knows it.

Ronaldo will play on the left, but move to the middle when we have the ball. Marcelo provides the width on the left and Bale in a free role imo.

I agree with chad that CR's instincts and runs are suited for the second line and not as a poor striker but he has rarely played as a9 and maybe he can bang more from that position. We shall see

yeah i think that's the plan, considering we brought in lucas vazquez and cheryshev who ply their trade on the wings, and we haven't brought in any forwards. my guess is that jese will be tested up front either as a back up or in rotations. it will make no sense after how fatigued we were in the second half of the last two seasons to still only have one forward. so my guess is jese will be the main back up/competition for benzema

All he did at Spurs was take long distance shots... couldn't pass it to save his life. Since it was Adebayor and Defoe, nobody complained and he did score quite a bit. But wtf. We're never going to win anything if we're keying our PLAYMAKING from Bale. i mean ffs, we have Isco, James and Benz... and you pick Bale as your creator!!!! Laughing
