I actually liked Montolivo in the second half, he was playing closer to our attack and I felt he worked much better there. Defensively, Montolivo is good at interceptions but he is too slow to cover the defence and build up play. It would be interesting to see more of Locatelli or Sosa in the regista position in the upcoming matches.

Monti was actually one of the best Milan players against Fiorentina, but that's not saying much.

I didn't notice anything from Locatelli when he came in apart from a stupid yellow. Hope of course that he does better as he gets more game time.

Calabria did not train with the team today either. He is at risk of not even getting called up for the game tomorrow. [Sky Italia]

Not sure, the wording is vague, either injury or he missed training (not attending)

Either way he just got called up for tomorrow's game

We got a few good attacks in, but overall we should do better ffs, this is Sassuolo's B team with a few exceptions, this game is very winnable, which is exactly why we won't win

Wow!!! What a game! Got me on the edge of my sit for the entire second half. Locatelli's goal was great, the celebration even greater. I found myself running around the sitting room with him. Laughing

Gomez's attempt at marking for Sassuolo's third was downright comical but aside from that, he had a decent showing. The team showed some flaws but a great spirit in fighting back, something we haven't seen in a long time

I gotta say this is Niang's best performance I've ever seen and this is no kneejerk. He was literally pushing the team forward after when a lot of our other players seemed to have given up. He won a penalty, won several fouls, didn't stop running, the winning goal was born out of his assist, only thing missing from his performance was a goal

We still need to improve a lot but I'd take these 3points

Forza Milan!!!!!!

this game almost reminded me of Lecce Milan 3 - 4 XD. Niang was so pumped up. That game i thought was over in half time before he came in. And actually we went down 3-1.

But Niang was everywhere! great runs, hustling defenders, running in spaces, holding ball well, creating chances, he had the most complete performance coming from him that i have seen him in Milan shirt - just a goal was missing...

maybe he should sign up for yoga class before the game XD to clear his head.

i thought before blaming defense, and absense of romagnoli, the midfield was a disaster bar kucka. montolivo and bonaventura could do little to nothing, in fact they were making very risky pass to defenders or just giving out ball to nowhere. i thought adriano in wings was a disaster too, not his fault though.

abate performance was disaster. i dont know what happened but felt he just lost his pace and concentration throughout the game.

gomez was ok, paletta was shaky ; Politano was everywhere... he had tricked de sciglio paletta and gomez i dont know how many times, in fact we were lucky that sassuolo should have got penalty after donnaruuma shoved him outside the box to clear the ball.

montolivo again no offense to his fans, but he contributes nothing... his passes are always side ways or backwards.. locatelli omg that shot XD
great goal for the kid but i will still be very cautious about that kid being great... we saw how de sciglio turned out..but congratulations to him on great goal and lifting milan up!

great thriller, niang really was instrumental in changing our game he is my MOTM

Would never forget this match. Today's match was more of an emotional rollercoaster though since we actually lead before screwing things up.

Also the team is in joint 3rd place after 7 games. I know its just 7 games, but I can't recall the last time we were this high up the table.

Welp, we actually did it.

We beat bloody Sassulo, our bogie team.

I gave up once it went 3-1. I was close to shutting it down and calling it a night when the comeback started. At that point, I didn't dare to dream.

I still cannot believe it. Hope it propels the team forward.

La Repubblica: Montella has clear ideas after yesterday

After yesterday's great victory, Milan can enjoy the national team break with much more serenity. At Milanello, Montella will continue working on improving our team's play and to give greater certainties: in these two weeks, the objectives will be to insert Calabria in the team with stability and to enhance the pitch co-existence of Montolivo and Locatelli.

Grande montella, grande Locatelli

I was away and checked the score around the 65' mark, saw 3-1 to Sass, knew pretty much that it would end that way

My eyes when I checked again after the game

Four games unbeaten? Damn

One of the main reasons that we are playing better is that Bonaventura is finally adapting to his role in the midfield. He had the bad habit of holding the ball for a long time, this slowed down our play and meant that less chances were being created. Montolivo is also at fault because he likes to play it safe, although I think he would do better in positions other than Regista where he wouldn't have the main responsibility of controlling the tempo. Essentially, we need players that take risks more often.
