It's always nice to see Juventus dip into Serie A for talent, a young Italian central defender at that.

Juventus have signed Atalanta defender Mattia Caldara in a deal that could be worth as much as €21 million.
The Bianconeri will pay €15m in four instalments for the 22-year-old, with an extra €6m in bonuses dependent on certain conditions being met during his time in Turin.
Caldara will be loaned back to Atalanta, however, for 18 months before beginning his Juve career in the summer of 2018. He has penned a deal until 2021 with the reigning Italian champions.

The depth at CB is absurd with BBC + Rugani, Benatia and Caldara. Life will be fine after Barzagli and Chiellini.

Caldara said thanks and good bye to la dea yesterday after the Milan game, his last in Bergamo. He was given the captain's armband.



64 apps, 10 goals and 4 assists for Atalanta.

12 apps, a starter for the U21 NT going to the semis in the Euros where he paired Rugani.

Looks like a beast of a CB, it won't be long before he becomes a regular in the starting lineup.

Last summer in u21 he was more solid than Rugani and i think he'll also be ahead in the depth chart at Juve.

Seems ready to play the 3rd CB role and even challenge for a starter spot. It felt as if our old defense had the sword of Damocles hanging on top of its head all season long, it needs a revamp. So Caldara's arrival is appreciated.

It's an interesting pair in the making with Rugani. Couldn't ask for more in terms of transition, it just needs to click.

I don't know, as much as Caldara looks ready, Allegri loves to take his time with new young players. Won't be surprised if he takes a while to be a regular. Sooner or later though he will be. I have little doubt.

Rugani was great vs Roma/Dzeko, he has earned his spot with most performances for us. Its time Barzagli takes a backseat.

He will be sparingly used unless injuries crop up

Takes a hell lot of time to 'integrate' (younger) players at the club

Besides this guy's 24 and fairly established, not exactly young-ish. Hope he doesnt get the Rugani treatment.

What younger players did we have that he failed to integrate into the club?

The only player that argument can hold weight with is Rugani and I don't think its a fault of Allegri or Rugani given the defenders we had in Chiellini, Barzagli and Bonucci in front of him (until this season)

Its not that he fails, is that he takes a really long time. With Rugani, its the first time for us that it seems he is failing.
