Is this really surprising? We all knew that with Blatter and Platini in charge of football that his suspension was going to increase.

BTW, when I read of this letter he wrote, my first reaction was "Oh! He can write?"

In a way this is a bit tragic, though. Considering what he *could* do, he sadly messes up his international outings big time all the time. I think that will pretty much tarnish how he will be considered when his career is over (unless he'll manage to play a great WC2014, provided that England will qualify and he will actually play ad not be injured or banned).

Tbf mate if he did that in the league he would have got an automatic 3 game ban as it comes under "violent conduct"

True, just can't help noticing that since they have been in charge some of the laws they have introduced about tackles and physical play get on my nerves. The 2 footed challenge rule for example.

Tackling is slowly but surely going out of the game, its sad but its the truth( Rodwell's tackle is an example of this)

This is really sad as Rooney's form this year has been on par with Messi.

I've said it in other threads that he is not just a striker anymore as he sets the table for everything United do in the final third and he even drops back to midfield if needed now.

IMO, this is just what England have been missing and if he could have carried that form into this tournament then they would have there best chance in a long time of being a REAL threat to do something significant (I'm not saying they would win).

I'm not an England fan or even a Rooney fan for that matter but having the Euro's maybe w/o Rooney and Ronaldo just sucks. That said he fully deserved his 3 game ban but it still sucks all the same.

Rooney always restricts (Not exactly any fault of his own ) England's formation to 4-4-2 and doesnt let much to maneuver since there could have been a fear for Capelllo that he might get frustrated when played as a lone striker in 4-5-1 for England.

So now that there is no Rooney Capello could try 4-3-3 for Euros.Ofcourse it wont change much if he is using Milner and SWP as wide forwards in 4-3-3.

A three match ban is justified, imo.

It was clearly nothing but violent conduct and therefore a three game ban is the right punishment. I thought it might be only two games since it's such an important occasion, but I'm glad to notice this didn't make UEFA go soft on Rooney.
