This spells DISASTER. Even if England does make it out of the group stage him missing those games means a lot less cohesion for him and the rest of the team for the rest of the tournament or how ever long they last

They might as well have just banned him from the tournament all together so England can just try and hope to get a gameplan that doesn't involve rooney at all working

One guy (Comment 423.) at the BBC blog of Phil McNulty posted these interesting numbers:

England with Rooney:
Matches won: 44 - 60.3%
Matches lost: 13 - 17%
Goals for: 139 - 1.9 per game
Goals against: 63 - 0.86 per game

England without Rooney:
Matches won 20 - 69%
Matches lost 5 - 17%
Goals for: 64 - 2.2 per game
Goals against: 24 - 0.83 per game

So it appears that Rooney missing might actually benefit England (if these numbers are correct, of course).

the sample size is greater for with rooney, so it is skewed and meaningless
