Dude did the defenders seriously got paid to play professionally.......Pele was doing things to them that i used to do to schoolmates when i was 9... Embarrassing is all i can say.

Pele played 1120 matches, but only 656 official games. Not saying that he didn't rape defenders on a regular basis on official games, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that some of the goals where the defenders look apathetic it's because they were playing a friendly.

Joke of a professional?really?no need to go that far,the guy has his own opinion of things,they may be idiotic but it his opinion,he is doing harm to no one.im sure messi cried when he said nerman was more complete than him.About the friendlies,back then the teams used to take it much more seriously specially when your going against the best team in the world(either brazil or Santos)

My grandfather and mother have told me about the tackles Pele used to take, players weren't just fouling him, they were looking to break bones. Imagine how players would react to that today, Pele had to take them and just keep it moving.

I agree with Ganso, he's entitled to his own opinions, no matter how boy wonder-esque they might be.

Tackles that would get yellow cards (possibly even red) in today's game, wouldn't even warrant a yellow when Pele was playing. That gives the defense a pretty good edge, even if they weren't on par with today's defenders.

let's be honest if you could get away with killer tackles then defending would be pretty easy considiring hitting the foot is easier than the ball (or the leg in that matter)

^ This people always talk about how defenders "sucked" back in the day, but honestly I rather play against defenders today who can pinpoint a tackle than one who can destroy my leg and get away with it
