The reason Pele was so many miles ahead of his competition back then was that he was a physical monster.

He never smoked or drank or partied, and had a top physical training schedule. He always up to date with the newest in sport science.

He simply had more drive for success than any other footballer then (which is why he is such an asshole).

Garrincha might have been more talented, but he was not even half as focused or dedicated as Pele, at the end of the day it is the dedicated tortoise that wins the race.

There are a lot of humble and respectful GOATs. Scratch that, Cruyff, Maradona and Pele all have huge mouths. The Kaiser is usually semi humble, but can also say crazy shit.

I guess a requirement for being a GOAT is having a huge mouth.
