De Rossi on Roma defensive?
By Football Italia staff

A shortage of centre-backs could see Daniele De Rossi used in defence for Roma against Juventus next Monday evening.

The Giallorossi will be without the injured Nicolas Burdisso and Simon Kjaer, while Juan will be suspended after his dismissal at Fiorentina on Sunday.

Enrique now only has one recognised centre-back in his squad – former Manchester United and Real Madrid man Gabriel Heinze.

The Spanish tactician, under fire after another defeat, could use right-back Marco Cassetti in the middle or opt for De Rossi.

To complicate matters, De Rossi’s natural replacement in midfield, Fernando Gago, is also unavailable after he too was red-carded in Florence.

it'll be cassetti-heinze as centerbacks, and derossi as a sweeper

it's a no brainer. unless he makes perrotta a centerback

I'd have to agree. Maybe if Gago could play the match De Rossi would drop back, but without Gago in the lineup we do not really have a proper defensive midfield player. Either way, we are in for a tough match.

We are going to win this one lads, I have a good feeling.

Juve needs to be brought down to earth a bit.

Here's my guess...

----------------------------Stekelenburg-------------------------------------
Taddei---------------Cassetti------------Heinze-----------------------Angel--
---------------------------------DDR-----------------------------------------
Perrotta--------------------------------------------------------------Pjanic
---------------------------------Totti----------------------------------------
------------------Osvaldo----------------------Lamela------------------------

I would go with:

Stekelenburg

Taddei Cassetti Heinze Angel

Simplicio De Rossi Pjanic

Lamela

Totti Osvaldo

Bench: Lobont, Cicinho, Perrotta, Viviani, Greco, Borriello, Caprari

If Heinze gets suspended, move De Rossi back to partner Cassetti and put in Viviani as CM.

On a side note, we need midfielders who contribute off the ball. Our current midfielders rely too much on ball possession. Tiki taka is nice and all, but Enrique has to get more movement going when we move up the pitch. We need our strikers to create space and our midfielders to exploit that space rather than simply have everyone standing and waiting for the ball. Enrique would really benefit from studying Zeman's tactics. In our 3 man midfield back in the day, we had Tommasi, Zanetti and Di Francesco, midfielders who knew how to create space for themselves. Now, with the current players we have and tactics that we're using, it's rather difficult to do so. That's where Pjanic and Lamela's games have to improve.

Pizarro and Rosi trained regularly today, though the latter has more chances of being called-up for Juve.

Heinze's elbow was deemed involuntary, therefore he won't receive a ban.

What LOL ?

Even if we had a full squad to choose from I still believe that we would lose...

Agree with most of the lineup maybe change Pizarro for Perrotta. Tec over Power..

That's good news about Heinze. Lessen's the blow a bit, but not much.

The best we should be aiming for is a draw at best and a close loss at worst. A win is pretty much out of sight, but never impossible. That will depend almost entirely on the team's mentality and how we approach this game.

Stranger things have happened, lol...I wouldn't be entirely blown away if we came away with points this weekend.

Totti is going to have a big game as well as Lamela, I predict.

Do we really need 3 forwards cant we just do it with two or even just one. I would go with a packed midfield with simplicio as the extra man and totti playing just ahead.

-------------Stekelenberg------------

Tadeei--Cassetti--Heinze--Angle

------------------Derossi----------------

---Simplicio---Pjanic---Perrotta---

-------------------TOTTI------------------

------------------MH. ALI-----------------

I do not think Lamela has done enough apart from the goal on his debut to deserve this long run in the first team but Enrique will always play him from some stupid reason.

I hope we keep our pride, play well and PASS THE BALL TO TOTTI.

3-1 to Juve

LE is almost guaranteed to stick with his 4-3-1-2 formation. thats not going to change. simplicio must've slept with his wife or something because he doesn't even make bench under LE let alone start

lamela definitely deserves to play more. how else will he grow as a footballer? he's a bit selfish on the ball, but that'll change as he settles. river plate was too reliable on him. otherwise, lamela's been decent for us, not great, but not terrible to keep him out of the squad either. if anything, lamela's had a better season than ANY of menez's seasons with us. that should account for something

young players dont just jump into the team. it takes time. it took totti 2 seasons to ease into the starting XI. it took de rossi 2 1/2

speaking of menez, he has the same overall player rating as de rossi in FM12. WTFFFFFFFFF

Yea i changed my mind over the last formation I posted in this thread:

Stekelenburg

Rosi De Rossi Heinze Taddei

Perrotta Pizarro Simplicio

Totti

Borriello Osvaldo

Cassetti was in physiotherapy today so who knows if he'll be available. Rosi and Pizarro are racing against time for Monday, but I would put them in anyway because we need our best possible lineup. I explained my reasons for having the two heavy strikers in another thread (basically, since all we did against Fiorentina was cross the ball in the no one, at least we would have two good options now in the box). In defense, as long as Heinze keeps De Rossi's positioning in check, then there shouldn't be a problem. Taddei over Angel for this one, against Juventus we need an experienced lineup. Have the defense stay a few meters further back than usual to avoid the constant 1 on 1. Have Perrotta and Simplicio cover that extra ground brought about by a deeper formation. Substitutions, be ready to bring in Pjanic, Lamela and Viviani, those fresh legs will cause problems for sure.

sounds good. i would probably play the same XI if i were manager, but LE would never play this. its too simplicio Very Happy

Daniele Orsato will be officiating this match.

Any controversy surround him when he's officiated our matches, Mike?

Juve will have a field day whipping crosses into our box with De Rossi playing as a CB .The guy is just useless in the air from what I have observed this season, especially when we are defending set pieces..
