Most People consider "Time" the best overall track for Inception but I also think that "Waiting for a train" and "Dream Is Collapsing" are up there

Nino Rota's The Godfather to me is one of the best soundtracks ever, if not the best. Here's one of the lesser known tracks:

Hans Zimmer? My fav work by him has to be the Dark Knight and Lion King.

Ennio Morricone - would be unfair to name a film, since his works were just phenomenal. If I have to pick one "The Octopus" series

Angelo Badalamenti - his work with David Lynch, the opening theme of Twin Peaks is still haunting for me.

Joeu Hisaishi - Japan John Williams, from Hanabi

Hans Zimmer is my favourite.
I think that his soundtracks make the movies better than it actually is(eg-Pirates of the caribbean)

my personal favourite is "the dark knight"

this particular scene gets me everytime(SPOILER ALERT!!!)

This track along with "Barbarian Horde" completely capture the essence of the movie as well as Rome itself, perfectly....overall my favorite track on the Gladiator Soundtrack.

This one's played when Anakin is killing the Separatists....beast scene to a beast soundtrack. And that ending....my oh my is that ominous....

All 3 LOTR soundtracks were beautifully done by Howard Shore. This one sticks out for me on the Two Towers soundtrack.

I'm actually listening to a playlist of over 700 movie soundtracks right now, and some of the best I've heard are definitely from Hans Zimmer.

Other than Zimmer, I'd say John Powell's How to Train Your Dragon Soundtrack was absolutely amazing, as was the soundtrack for Independence Day. David Arnold I think it was.

Personally, I like Klaus Badelt on the first PotC more than Hans Zimmer, but he does make insane soundtracks.

all the soundtracks in LOTR are just not comparable to any other in the world,

forth Eorlingas, just how it worked out well with the Gandalf coming with the Rohirim just gives hope to the hopeless...

also Enya and Annie Lennox "Into the West" kill it also

just

p.s: I still believe Enya is not human, perhaps she is Tolkein's last Elf left on Earth....

Best Movie Soundtracks Empty Spotlight on James Horner

Post by papa_acorn Mon Mar 19, 2012 1:17 pm

Nice topic. I've enjoyed listening to all of your suggestions. I just wanted to highlight James Horner, who has done some really great pieces.

The often overlooked "Glory" soundtrack is amazing, especially with the choral work. First track on the album, "Call to Arms":

From the climactic end scene, "Charging Fort Wagner":

And the Closing Credits:

Then another movie with James Horner, Legends of the Fall, "The Ludlows":

I'm sure there are other good ones from James Horner, but the Glory soundtrack is often overlooked, so I wanted to share it. Same with Legends of the Fall. Hope you like them!
