Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
stitches are 20meters llong, those lines divide each side by 1/6 of the total length, with similar triangles we come up with the formula 8/6*(1+2+3+4+5)=8/6*(15)=20m
and ps babun, please change your avatar back to that smiling baboon, i cant take you seriously with this current avatar

i dont tihnk so, arithmetic mean is (sum of samples)/(number of samples)
and if i havent forgotten population mean can be calculated with different types of statistical distributions, arithmetic mean being one of them.

Topic is Integration by substitution
∫(4x - 8 ) (2x - 5)^7 .dx where u = 2x - 5
Whoever solves this question fast, will get a funny question from me. Time limit is until Friday.

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
thanks guys, such a stupid exam --> product developement and engineering design, it didnt go to bad though.
as for the integral goes heres what i came up with:
integral (4x-8 )*(2x-5)^7 dx with the substitution variable being u=2x-5
so we have integral (2u+2)*u^7 du
= 2/9 8 u^9 + 2/8 u^8 + C = 2/9 * (2x-5)^9 + 2/8 (2x-5)^8 + C
as for the integral goes heres what i came up with:
integral (4x-8 )*(2x-5)^7 dx with the substitution variable being u=2x-5
so we have integral (2u+2)*u^7 du
= 2/9 8 u^9 + 2/8 u^8 + C = 2/9 * (2x-5)^9 + 2/8 (2x-5)^8 + C

I hate engineering design.
Wouldn't the integral be (u+1)*u^7 du ?

Substitution alone isn't enough, you have to calculate
du/dx=(2x-5)'=2 <=> dx= 0.5 du
∫ (2u+2)*u^7*0.5 du= ∫(u+1)*u^7 du= ∫u^8+u^7 du= 1/9*u^9+ 1/8*u^8+c
Resubstitution: u=2x-5
1/9*(2x-5)^9+ 1/8*(2x-5)^8+c
Spanky, you'll receive your funny question tomorrow

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
it cancels out when u resubstitute it
edit: nvm ur right du=2dx

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
Spanky's reward
topic: analysis
difficulty: hard
requirements: unknown
David Alaba walks his dog, Shtuppid, in the morning. Shtuppid rans away from his master and stays somewhat 35m afar from him. David calls him, waves with his hand etc. but Shtuppid doesn't react at all Suddenly, he sees a rabbit and runs after it perpendicular towards his master's position. Alaba chases after him always running towards his dog's current position. After a mini marathon, he catches him.
The question: how much of a distance did the dog cover? Assume that Alaba's and Shtuppid's velocities are constant and that Alaba runs 4/3 times faster than his dog.

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
Wait, so Shtuppid only runs perpendicular to the bit between his initial position and Alaba's initial position?
