Juventus coach Conte left voiceless after Coppa Italia triumph over AC Milan
Juventus coach Antonio Conte lost his voice over the course of his side's dramatic Coppa Italia semi-final success over AC Milan on Tuesday night and was unable to attend his post-game press conference as a consequence.
The Bianconeri boss had to send assistant coach Angelo Alessio to face the media after shouting himself hoarse after an absorbing 120 minutes of action in which the hosts opened the scoring through Alessandro Del Piero, fell behind after second-half goals from Rossoneri duo Djamel Mesbah and Maxi Lopez, only to then book their place in the tournament decider thanks to a thunderbolt from Mirko Vucinic.
“Antonio always lives each match with such passion, and now he’s voiceless," Alessio is quoted as saying by his club's official website.
"We’ve produced a great performance, and this has occurred thanks to the lads, who really wanted to get through to the final. They’ve been giving their all for eight months in order to achieve this goal.
"This evening, we’ve faced a great side and we’ve been forced to limit our pressing.
"We’ve done well in reacting immediately after Milan had gone in front, and in extra-time we’ve reacted even better, creating three goal chances and finally netting through Vucinic."
Juventus now turn their attention back to overhauling the Rossoneri at the top of Serie A, with the Bianconeri set to host Inter on Sunday evening, a day after Milan meet Roma at San Siro.
