Ronaldo had a couple of good chances to shoot that Messi was not given by Chelsea and he blew them all.

May I remind you, you are a member of the OGLCRFC so technically you are one of the fanboys

One of the best big game players of our generation. 90 minutes of one leg later and you can see the reaction.

Dis site.

In no way did CR7 play better than Messi this week, how many times did Cr7 even touch the ball against Bayern, other than the horrible miss 1v1.

I cant work with flukes, I just know he put in a FK which resulted in a chance. Maybe it was lucky, maybe it wasnt. I dont really know.

I dont agree about the getting involved part. There have been games he hasnt been involved, I would point to one of the Arsenal games, the 1st Inter game, maybe the 2nd Inter game and also the Copa vs you. All games he wasnt involved in.

Again, I think its a "system" arguement..when actually, it takes ability go do what he does.

I also have to disagree with Cristiano. There was flaw in the way you was set up, however it was a open game and relatively end to end. Bayern probably had the better of it, but it was pretty much you attack, we attack, nobody really controlled the action.

Cristiano could of come deeper and pick the ball up, he could of come closer to the midfield. He certaintly has the freedom to do so. But he opted to stay in more attacking positions and wait for service which wasnt coming.

I understand if for 45 minutes he does, for maybe even 70 minutes, after all, his greatest assest is goalscoring. But you simply cannot go the whole game as the teams best player and not come get more touches if your not getting any.

You cannot be that relient on other members, especially when they are struggling.

i changed the title, only because limited brain power dont understand that i just used a provocative title to raise the discussion about Messi's performance today. In no way was i even slaying and calling him a flop in my OP. But since some cant put 1+1 together, i have to make a name change, not that i care, but for the sake of the forum.

Post by DuringTheWar Thu Apr 19, 2012 1:26 am

He had a decent game overall, he made some chances, some good combinations, and had some good dribbles. On the flipside he lost the ball for the goal, and he lost it a bit easy on some other occassions. The only annoying thing really was when he was trying to do everything himself, there was several occasions when he tried to dribble past multiple defenders and kept getting tackled or fouled, it was getting a bit predictable after a while. I read someone on the barca section say he lacked imagination, id agree with that to be fair. Some of his shots were also a bit aimless

overall it was a decent performance

As I saw it, Messi had lots of shooting opportunities, today. He shot into defenders, which is not better than, for example, shooting over the cross bar or wide!

No, that's not true and heres why.

By looking at this diagram you can see Messi hardly if at all received the ball in an a shooting position because of how well and compact chelsea were defending, forcing Messi to drop deep to receive the ball.

Has Messi still never scored in London?
Edit: Aside from CL Final?

Don't know about Arsenal, but he has never scored against Chelsea. And that's including Camp Nou.

While I understand you are clearly in jest, and so was I, there is a serious point to be had here I think. If Messi had a good game overall, as he did, but contributed nothing to the tie and nothing that is carried down to the second leg, while Cristiano who did not have as good a game turned up where it mattered and helped get the goal which could prove vital, doesnt it follow that he did something more important? His final value to his team in the first leg was more than Messi's.

quality post

Why thanks. (I wonder if Leo wasnt joking as well hmm)

Anyway, by no means was I trying to say Cristiano played better than Messi. I was just throwing in the argument that, come the second leg, he did more that actually counts than Messi. Of course, football is a game to be watched and enjoyed which is why stats do not reveal everything.

Messi choking - Page 6 Empty Missi chocks under pressure

Post by Potential Tue Apr 24, 2012 8:55 pm

Sevilla Barcelona, 0-0; Barcelona have a chance to go 2 points clear, Missi.
Chelsea vs Barcelona 1-2; Barcelona have the chance to reach the CL final, Missi.
Velencia vs Barcelona 1-1; Barcelona can hold an away advantage, Missi.

Interesting fact : Messi had been given more penalties than Ronaldo but still scored less goals.
