Well, to be honest, they never really marketed the forum properly. I found it by accident. Almost as if they didn't care much about it in the first place.

Yep I got that same vibe, it was like a small link in the top corner of their website. Goal.com in general is just a poorly set up site as for users participation goes, like the comments section on their articles, you can never tell if your comment was posted or not. Razz

So basically, they were going to close the forums, because they were implementing a better comment system on the main page.

Honestly, don't get why they kept the forums for so long, if they were going to close them in the end. The group that we had were largely random football fans who happened to join the forum. I hardly ever actually go on goal.com

I'm actually kind of glad they didn't advertise the forum though, that would bring in too many people. I like this number we have, it's comfortable, I know of all the regular posters, and i don't have to fish through 500 posts every morning to get up to speed.

The first forum ever had about 45-50 devoted posters, the second one had too many for me to keep a hold of. Hopefully this one doesn't get too crazy

I second this, I don't enjoy forums that are over-crowded either.
You wake up in the morning and check the forum and there are like 100+ posts in ten hottest threads... not my cup of jack daniels.

obviously we had more lurkers reading the FORUM including the writers than goal.com will eva think of

and remember how everytime they posted something stupid, we made a fool out of them by calling them senile and clueless, so as time went by less and less people visited the websites and instead hung out on the forum

their budget dropped, so they finally dropped the bomb....no more forum because we are losing readers,

they basically tried to make us suffer

but no worries goal.com cuz your are obviously lurking on this site to copy into your own stories as evidence by the ever so increasing coicidences that all of a sudden somethign we have been discussing is reported on their main wesbsite....the lurkers will immigrate into this place with us so your readers will still drop

now one message to goal.com

My conjecture is that they wanted to integrate the forum/user community with their articles and their main website more seeing as how separated Goal.com was from the forums.

they actually used to advertise the forum in the past.. every week they would have some quotes, or discussions of the week... it's weird that, just over a year ago they closed one forum, and created another one.. and now closed it again.. the new commenting system will limit discussions to the articles, and perhaps that's what they want.. i for one am glad we still have this!
